CHAPTER 12

For a moment, he could feel his eyes twitching at what he was seeing. The spikes and mud were one thing, but those flames would destroy his physical defenses as soon as they made contact.

Rather than on the demons heading towards him, his attention was instead on the randomly spewing lava. He was able to feel the intense energy building right before the spew and would get out of the way before it came gushing out.

Thankfully, the rate wasn't increasing, and the flames were helping him deal with a great number of the demons headed towards him.

Placing his index and middle fingers together, he raised them towards the demons and slowly began gathering external energy around them.

It would be a great risk for him to get too close even though a physical fight would be more to his advantage. In addition to that, he was using the immense external energy around him to his advantage.

With it, his external control was bound to be far more refined, it was clear as a glowing white ball slowly began to emerge at the tip of his fingers.

It was instantly shot towards the group of demons, and just as it was about to make contact, expanded to over ten times in size.

The cave was lit up in a bright white light that shrouded the demons from his gaze, and as soon as it all slowly dimmed, nothing remained but the bodies of the creatures blown to bits.

In a few minutes, twice a dozen of the creatures had been destroyed leaving only a few that were still yet to reach him.

The huge amount of innate energy flowing within him was their main objective and they were ready to risk their lives past the obstacles just to get him.

They were like vampires, crawling through darkness in search of a source to quench their never-ending lust. Except that they were far more evil.

Holding out his fingers in the same form once again, he shot another ball of external energy toward the creatures, killing off the remaining few.

The cave floor slowly returned to normal, the spikes began retracting as well and he as well couldn't sense any ounce of external gathering beneath the ground.

" Given that she possesses the cursed eyes it wouldn't be a surprise if this all turned out to be an illusion." He thought, taking in a deep breath as he slowly walked towards the wall.

He felt incredibly tired after using a huge amount of external energy, but it could all change with a few minutes of rest.

He slowly reached towards the wall with his right hand, leaning closer towards it as he let out another deep breath. That was when he felt the presence of external energy gathering up once again, right at the same line where he just placed his palm.

Standing strong on his feet once again, he pulled away from the wall and watched as spikes shot out from it once again.

" What the fu*k." He said.

But that wasn't the end of it — the presence of external energy began growing stronger and the walls slowly began to close in together.

Looking towards the only path that remained for him, he didn't think twice before quickly running forward. The route was narrow enough, so even though the wall was closing in slowly, he would be crushed if he stayed any longer.

The external energy he was feeling was constant until a certain point which he managed to cross a few minutes later. The wall closed a while after he crossed, and he could only look back to see that this was a death game than it was a test.

It was affecting him mentally than it was physically — had it not been for his severed limbic system, then he would have been screaming for his life at that point.

He remained deep in thought, contemplating what to do next since it had been a few minutes since the traps hadn't appeared. The system still remained vague to him, but he couldn't help but find it quite strange.

" Maybe there's some sort of activation mechanism around here." He thought, looking around as he slowly took a step forward.

The ground began rumbling, a vibrant quake of the earth that almost knocked him off his feet as the ground slowly began cracking open.

Multiple hands began emerging from within all sides of the cave — the walls, floor, and above him. They went shooting at the opposite point while moving at a straight point.

The hands appeared a few meters away from him and kept on moving in the same pattern until he ended up in an earth cage.

" What could be happening this time." He thought, biting his lower lip as he continued to look around.

He couldn't feel any other presence of external energy aside from the ones coming from the hands and it made him more uncomfortable than he could imagine.

There should have been a twist, otherwise, everything happening would then be a trap to get him to let his guard down. Maybe the enemy was suppressing their energy to the smallest bit or he could already be right where he needed to be.

Still, deep in thought, he infused the entirety of his body with his innate energy, ready to move at any time just in case anything would happen to come at him.

A rough breeze suddenly blew against his face, the rustling of wind resounding as he looked forward to see what seemed to be an ethereal black orb emerging.

It grew bigger, until it was at least three times his size before disappearing, revealing a demon in its stead.

Stood on six legs with deep black eyes and a horn protruding from its forehead, he could only stare in awe at how horrific the creature looked.

Had it been a hundred times smaller than it was, then it would be a mild perfection — All insects looked terrible anyway, so it would surely make for an award winner. (My opinion)

But that wasn't the only thing that happened at that moment.
