A Sick Girl

But if kids consume the berries, the children could go straight to heaven if they take two berries. This leads me to another one of my cases about a sick girl.

"I recalled that I've got to handle a mission regarding a sick little girl. At that time, I was just a rookie and nobody. Hence, I was grabbing random jobs on the easy list. My father didn't seem to mind. The whole thing with that girl was plain and simple, yet so complex."

"The kid was still going to school, and she was about ten years old. Due to her illness, her father divorced the family and took the elder brother with him."

"Why would a father do that? It seems like a very cowardly and selfish way to do so. I mean, your child is sick. The kid needs all the support she can get, and the closest way would be from her parents," asked Bryan, angry at the father.

"You'll find that most parents in my previous world don't want to be parents. They see kids as extra mouths to feed. And if the kid falls ill, that requires care and money. Most of the cases I've got to eliminate kids were by parents that can't afford the equipment needed to keep the child alive."

"I turn them down since I can't kill kids, but that doesn't mean I don't dare to. I've pulled the trigger on a child before, but that's another whimsical case. For the sick girl, her father left because he didn't value girls. He didn't see them as equals; he saw them as servants and lower lives."

"I later found that he had forced his wife into submission to make love with him. The man only wanted her body, not the kids. Until a son was born and he kept the child. He hoped that the woman could give him another boy, so they got married."

"But the lady was still being abused badly since she was a female. Thus, when she was pregnant, she suffered several miscarriages. The reason he got away with everything was that he's rich enough to pay off witnesses."

Bryan looked even worse than when I was telling the previous story. I never knew I could the Slayer's face look so mortified and disgusted.

"I was hired by the father to kill both the woman and child since he couldn't do it by himself. I thought was odd since he could've easily killed the kid by himself. But he said that he wasn't very good at covering tracks and people like us. But he's got the money, so I was called."

"On the surface level, all he'd ask me was to kill the two. However, I needed to do a full background check as per my job. It was for my safety and the people around me. If the case seemed dangerous to do or would land me into unneeded trouble, I would pass."

"Sometimes, they put up a fight, and I would silence them instead. So I dug through his family story and found the mother and daughter duo after a few days. I thought he'd at least give me the location of where they lived, but they changed places after the divorce."

"I befriended them quickly by posing as a grieving parent. The mother was quite gullible, so I figured out how she'd got with a man like her husband in the first place. The kid, though, was a different story. She seemed well-aware about her condition and accepted it."

"I tried talking to the woman about hating her husband who left her and getting the help that she needs. However, after a while, I found that she was slightly unhinged. She kept saying she still loved the man and wanted to return to him. I had to clean my ears afterward."

"It was like hearing a lunatic talk. Every time I wanted to talk to her daughter, the mother would always barge in. I was getting annoyed. I became interested in the little girl, who looked very familiar. I offered to watch over the kid while the mother went away to get food."

"Finally, I got the chance to talk to the kid, and the first thing she told me was to get help. She broke that facade of being a brave, strong girl instantly as she gripped onto my hands. I was surprised and found that her mother had been poisoning her food."

"But I couldn't risk getting trouble with my bosses, so I had to decline. But I told the truth and why I was here. She knew that I wasn't a passerby and was hired hitman because she recognized me. After confirming her worries with me, she went back to her soulless state."
