Awards and a House Party pt.2

Mary sat nervously in the waiting room of the hospital, twisting her hands on her lap. Nathan stood beside her, his face also etched with concern.

"I can't believe this happened to my baby," Mary whispered, her eyes fixed on the sterile white floor tiles. Nathan reached over, gently placing a hand on Mary. "He's going to be alright. He was talking with us in the ambulance on our way here. That's a good sign, right?" he assured her.

"He was barely conscious, Nathan. He was speaking gibberish," Mary replied angrily.

"Alright, no need to get angry. Just calm down. I am sure the doctor is going to come out that door and tell us some good news," Nathan said, trying to calm Mary. He knew how protective she was of her son.

"How did it happen? I mean, how did that award get…," Mary stopped when she saw Chris approaching them. She also saw Jaime and Sarah following close behind him, worry evident in their faces.

"Mary, Nathan," Chris greeted them with a solemn nod. "How is he doing? Any updates?"

Mary shook her head. "Not yet. We're still waiting to hear from the doctors."

"How did this happen? Last I remember was him going to change his clothes after I threw him in the pool," Chris said to himself.

I had fallen asleep last night Playing video games the TV was still on God of War II was still running on it.

"I am never staying up late again," I thought as I got out of bed.I entered the closet and stood in front of the large mirror in there.

"I think I am getting a bit chubby," I said to myself, looking at my naked self. I guess months of just doing nothing but writing and playing video games can do that to you. "I really need to get some exercise. I wonder if there are any gyms nearby."

I looked at the large Cabinet where all my clothes were stored. It was too big too big if you ask me it was so big it had a ladder. I mean, a ladder in a closet? I was starving, so I put on a robe and went downstairs to get something to eat.

Strangely, there was no one downstairs. I heard sounds of people talking in the backyard, and to my surprise, I found Chris and his family there, looks like they were having breakfast.

"Hey, you guys are early," I said, making my presence known.

"Your mom invited us to brunch," Chris replied.

"Brunch? It's the morning," I mumbled.

"It's almost noon, Danny," Nathan chimed in, with an expression of amusement.

"Oh, I really slept in then."

"That's a nice outfit, kid. Going for the sleazy Hollywood producer look, I see."

"Huh?" I said, confused. I looked at the robe I was wearing and realized what he was implying. "Ahh, I get it," I replied.

"Huh, I am surprised you got that," Chris said, taking a sip of the cocktail he was having.

"Get what?" mom asked, confused. Nathan and Sarah looked to us as well.

"Nothing," Chris and I said together.

"I am starving," I said, approaching the table, but I was stopped by mom.

"You can eat when you come back wearing proper clothes," mom said sternly.

"But I am starving," I protested.

"No," her tone was firm.

"Fine."

I trudged away back to my room and returned wearing clothes. I talked with Chris as I ate the food mom had made.

"So what is the plan then, Toy Story 2 first or Finding Nemo?" I said to Chris.

"Toy Story 2 first. We have a completed story, and we can also use the assets from the first one. Nemo requires more work. I put a small team on the character designs while you and Sam work on the script," Chris replied.

I nodded, and we continued to talk about the projects. I had been thinking about what I was going to do in the future. I wanted to make movies and had an idea of which ones to make or just write scripts for.

"Hey, are you only going to do animated movies?" I asked Chris.

"Well, that is what we focus on," Chris replied.

"Ever think about making a live-action one, get a good script, find a director, all that stuff?" I inquired, asking him about the possibility of branching into a different part of filmmaking.

"We could try if we have a good script. There will have to be big changes. Why are you asking? Have any ideas?" Chris responded, his interest piqued by my questioning.

"No, no, well not yet. I was just asking," I quickly clarified.

"I get a feeling that you are cooking up something, kid."

"What do you think about superhero movies?" I asked, wanting to know about how that type of movie is perceived here. I had realized that there were no live-action superhero movies here in this world other than some movies in the seventies and eighties. The MCU was going to begin next year with Iron Man, if I remember correctly.

"Superhero movies," Chris repeated. "Nothing much. There were some in the eighties, but after a couple of flops, the studios gave up on those types of movies."

"I really liked the Spiderman movie's from the seventies. It was very campy, but hey I liked it," he added.

"Huh, so umm no one's trying to make them, not even recently?" I asked him, thinking back to the Iron Man movie that was going to be released next year. Even the Christopher Nolan Batman movies didn't exist here. From what Chris was saying the whole genre had been given up on by the studios.

"Now that you mentioned it, I heard Jon Favreau has been trying to make a movie based on some B-list superhero from Marvel," Chris added, sharing a tidbit of industry gossip.

"Are you sure he is not making that one now?" I asked.

"No, not really. Marvel is not in a position to do it now. I heard they were in some financial trouble. Maybe in a few years," Chris replied.

That means the MCU might still happen; it might be delayed but its's still happening. DC, it looked like, was nonexistent in the last decade. Only the animated shows existed; there was the Batman animated series and the Justice League series too. I wonder who owned the rights to them now.

"Look, Danny, the whole comic book industry is in a slump now. Look at Nebula Studios; they were big in the eighties when they did the Superman movies, but now they are on the brink of bankruptcy."

Nebula Studios, haven't heard that name before. Doesn't Warner own DC comics?

"Wait, wait. Who owns DC comics?" I asked Chris, realizing there might be a huge change I hadn't noticed yet.

"Nebula Media. They used to be big back then, now not so much," he answered.

Okay, that was a big change. This could be useful.I might have just stumbled up on a goldmine here. The current Hollywood establishment has completely written off superhero movies. The MCU made Disney and Marvel billions it might still happen here maybe a little later. This was something to think about in the future.
