What did it mean to die?
That was a common philosophical question with a multitude of personal and abstract answers. Death had both a literal and implied meaning, depending on how one chose to view it.
To die was to have one's heart stop beating and their brain stop functioning, in the most literal sense. Others said to die was to be forgotten, and to forget.
Connor was one of the few who believed this. No, he wanted to believe it. His whole life depended on it.
