"What's that smell?" Taiga asked her brusquely cutting her off. "What?" She could tell her brother was angry. This surprised her. He almost never got angry with her. What was his problem she thought. "Also where did you get this sweater. I don't remember ever seeing you wearing it." He asked again. Megumi could feel her heart beating out of her chest. She started to panic but quickly composed herself, putting on a poker face. "A friend let me borrow it okay, its not a big deal, get off my case." She said shrugging him off. But his grip on her arm got tighter. "No, that smell. It doesn't smell like Rin and I know you don't have any other friend's so who is it?" "What? Rude! I have other friends!" She said feeling offended, despite his words being the truth. " I swear to God Megumi, don't lie to me. Who gave this to you because the smell coming out of you is the scent of a prey, and a deer no less." Megumi cursed inwardly. She forgot how good her brother's sense of smell was. It almost rivalled her own. Megumi didn't bother trying to hide it, she couldn't lie to her brother anyway. "So what if it is? Where's the problem in that?" Her words seemed to anger her brother even more. "Where's the problem in that?! Megumi are you serious?" "Do you not realize how dangerous this is?" Megumi looked at him confused. Taira couldn't help sighing seeing how genuinely lost his sister was. "Having a deer's scent on you is a form of marking Megumi. It's a form of submission for wolves!" This revelation shocked Megumi almost beyond repair. "How can a wolf submit to its prey?!" In what world did that make sense? ************************************************************************************************** Megumi Ahane, born into a wealthy family and blessed with wolf genes resents the life she has to live. In a world where you are either prey or predator, Megumi finds herself in a conflicting position where she has to choose between rejecting the genes she was born with or giving in to fate. ************************************************************************************************** Note: This story takes place in a modern setting but has some fantastical elements to it. There are a couple of twists and turns as well as some betrayal but overall there's not too much toxicity between the protagonist and the male lead. This story is both short and sweet.
34. Kondou = Confusion
Beaux gave her a small smile. "I guess it's not something you can really admit."
Megumi peered at him wanting to gauge his expression. She was surprised to see that there was almost a shadow of a smile on Beaux' face, but what surprised her the most was the furlong expression in his eyes.
Megumi could feel her heartstrings being tugged. She didn't know why, but she wanted to divulge everything she felt to Beaux.
Her wolf instincts were telling her that he could be trusted.
"...Is it that bad? To admit having feelings for someone?" She asked in a soft voice.
Beaux cast her a glance before looking in front of him. He kept walking in silence before answering her.
"It is..." Megumi flinched at his words but Beaux continued. "....But it shouldn't be. We should be allowed to like whoever we want but sadly that kind of luxury is impossible for us wolves." He sighed.
Megumi nodded her head in agreement. "To be honest, I'm not sure if what I feel is love...I feel this burning heat whenever I look at him or think of him. I become impulsive and do things I wouldn't normally do. But I feel like these aren't my actions. It's like something is pulling me to act and feel this way."
Beaux who had been walking at a steady pace stoped brusquely. Megumi who was startled by his action turned to look at him.
His face paled. He stood frozen in place unable to move. Megumi shook his shoulders trying to get his attention.
Had what she said really warranted that much of a reaction? She was starting to regret telling him how she felt.
Beaux got out of his daze, shaking his head. "Sorry, I-I I just had this weird feeling." He said in a shaky voice.
"Are you sure you're okay? Did what I say creep you out that much?"
"No, no it's not what you said. It's more like...a familiar feeling I guess." That was all Beaux said before walking off.
Megumi didn't pry any further and ran up to catch up to him.
"Look, there's nothing wrong with having feelings for him. What matters now is what you'll do with those feelings." He finally said.
"You our family situations are pretty similar. Wether we want to or not, we are going to paired off. So keep this situation under wraps for now."
"Right."
Seeing her look so sullen, Beaux couldn't help but sigh.
"Listen. I am on your side okay? How about we form an alliance? We can figure all of this out later?" He said, giving her a little nudge.
Megumi was surprised by how nonchalant Beaux was being. I mean Megumi had just dropped a bombshell. She was maybe, possibly in love with a prey, and a deer at that, but she didn't see a single ounce of disgust on his face.
She felt her heart swell and shot him the brightest smile. "Thank you Beaux." This startled Beaux and he quickly looked away. He was starting to feel a little flustered.
"Don't worry about it." He said under his breath.
The two arrived at the gate and were greeted by the two mother's.
They shot each other looks before heading inside.
Meanwhile, there was a storm brewing in the Itohara household.
