"What's that smell?" Taiga asked her brusquely cutting her off. "What?" She could tell her brother was angry. This surprised her. He almost never got angry with her. What was his problem she thought. "Also where did you get this sweater. I don't remember ever seeing you wearing it." He asked again. Megumi could feel her heart beating out of her chest. She started to panic but quickly composed herself, putting on a poker face. "A friend let me borrow it okay, its not a big deal, get off my case." She said shrugging him off. But his grip on her arm got tighter. "No, that smell. It doesn't smell like Rin and I know you don't have any other friend's so who is it?" "What? Rude! I have other friends!" She said feeling offended, despite his words being the truth. " I swear to God Megumi, don't lie to me. Who gave this to you because the smell coming out of you is the scent of a prey, and a deer no less." Megumi cursed inwardly. She forgot how good her brother's sense of smell was. It almost rivalled her own. Megumi didn't bother trying to hide it, she couldn't lie to her brother anyway. "So what if it is? Where's the problem in that?" Her words seemed to anger her brother even more. "Where's the problem in that?! Megumi are you serious?" "Do you not realize how dangerous this is?" Megumi looked at him confused. Taira couldn't help sighing seeing how genuinely lost his sister was. "Having a deer's scent on you is a form of marking Megumi. It's a form of submission for wolves!" This revelation shocked Megumi almost beyond repair. "How can a wolf submit to its prey?!" In what world did that make sense? ************************************************************************************************** Megumi Ahane, born into a wealthy family and blessed with wolf genes resents the life she has to live. In a world where you are either prey or predator, Megumi finds herself in a conflicting position where she has to choose between rejecting the genes she was born with or giving in to fate. ************************************************************************************************** Note: This story takes place in a modern setting but has some fantastical elements to it. There are a couple of twists and turns as well as some betrayal but overall there's not too much toxicity between the protagonist and the male lead. This story is both short and sweet.

"Beaux!" Megumi said raising her voice.
Beaux was snapped out of his own thoughts and turned to look at Megumi.
"Oh, so we are on first name basis now?" He asked raising his eyebrows.
"Given our circumstances, it would be weird if we weren't. Plus I called you by your surname but you didn't respond."
"Right." Is all he said.
Rin looked at the two of them with curiosity. Feeling his gaze, Beaux asked him what was wrong.
"To be honest, I kinda want to know your thoughts on all of this." Rin said honestly.
Beaux gave him a confused look. "You mean me changing schools?"
"No, I mean yes but mostly about you and Megumi having to become pairs."
"Oh, that's what you meant...Wait, you know?" He asked surprised.
"Yeah, Megumi told me all about it."
"Oh, you guys must be really close then." He said with a knowing look.
"Not like that! I mean we're best friends so of course I would know." Rin said correcting him.
"I see. I thought you guys were like that."
Rin's mouth twitched at his words. Why did everyone think they were together?
"...I guess I feel a little weird. I mean suddenly being told I'd be paired off with a girl I don't even know..."
"Yeah, I can relate." Megumi said giving him a sarcastic smile.
"So you guys are both against it." Rin concluded.
"Of course we are!" They said in unison.
Beaux than turned to look at Megumi. "You also don't want to be paired up?"
Megumi looked at him like he had an extra head attached to his neck.
Did it look like she was happy to be with him? "When did I ever give you the impression I was?"
"Oh, I thought you wanted to after seeing me." He said honestly.
Megumi still looked confused but Rin understood what he meant.
Basically, he was a good looking guy with high specs, how could she not fall for him.
Rin rolled his eyes at how conceited Beaux was and how slow Megumi was being. He really couldn't see the two of them being together.
"Megumi isn't interested in dating or pairing with anyone in the slightest." He answered for her.
"So she's never dated anyone...like ever?" He bewilderedly asked.
Rin shook his head.
Beaux found that hard to believe. Megumi Ahane was a beautiful girl, how could no one have ever tried to get with her? It made no sense to him.
Even he who wasn't interested her like that found her breathtaking. If his heart didn't belong to someone else, he wouldn't hesitate to pursue her.

The school day ended and Beaux had received a message from his mom telling him to accompany Megumi home since they would be having dinner together.
Beaux rolled his eyes at this but still informed Megumi of their plans.
Megumi looked a little conflicted.
"What's wrong? I mean even I don't want to have dinner together but we don't have a choice."
"I know, it's just that I have a project I am working on with my partner and we were suppose to meet up today to finish it."
"Oh, well if the project is almost done, you guys can afford to miss one day. Just let them know. Plus I don't think we're allowed to miss dinner today."
Beaux was right, she also received a message from her mother telling her to come straight home.
She sighed. She was looking forward to finishing the assignment with Kanae today.
Rin seeing the conflicted look on her face pushed her out of the classroom.
"Just go, I am sure Kanae will understand." He said.
"Kanae?"
"Yeah, Megumi's partner." He then turned to point at the person in question and Beaux followed his line of sight.
He then saw the person he was referring to and his eyes narrowed.
"He's her partner?" He asked in disbelief.
"Yes he is." Megumi answered before going up to him and letting him know they needed to cancel their plans.
When giving Kanae the news, his attention turned to look at Beaux. Although his face remained stoic, his eyes were glaring daggers at him.
Beaux felt confused by the death stare he had just received.
"What's that guy's problem?" He asked.
Rin didn't say anything. He had an idea but he couldn't say anything without divulging Megumi's secret.
"Don't worry about it. C'mon let's wait for Megumi by the entrance. She'll meet us there."
Beaux followed Rin out but not before giving Kanae another look.
What a weirdo. He thought.
