A New Job

As I watched the last bit of the Soul Eater anime, I had a big, wide smile on my face, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Honestly, I think I lucked out in picking this as my first anime, well the first one I finished.

I watched a little bit of Fire Force hearing that it was a prequel to Soul Eater but well I wasn't that into it so I put it on hold until I finished Soul Eater. Although I wouldn't have time to get properly started on it it was getting late and I had to work tomorrow, the bane of a binge watcher but oh well I have to make a living and apartments weren't getting any cheaper. 

So brushing my teeth and putting on some of my pajamas, I tucked into bed having a bit of a hard time getting to sleep. But it should be fine it wouldn't take more than an hour to fall asleep, and my comfy pillow would help as well. 

Just as I was starting to doze off, I saw a bright flash of light appear before my eyes, and the ground shook all around me. I got up immediately and looked outside as massive white light flashed all over the city, they engulfed it and I felt my body starting to disintegrate, I could feel my flesh and bones turn to ash. 

I tried to scream but my voice was silent and I was slowly engulfed in a white flash of light as well, probably alongside the rest of the building. When I died, I had appeared over the city as a white wisp shaped like a ball alongside hundreds of others, other souls that were engulfed in the city. 

When I tried to communicate with them no voice came out and I was only able to listen as the cries of those who weren't caught by surprise tried to run but were soon engulfed as well, joining the rest of us. I even saw a few animals turned to ash and that ash vaporized and destroyed alongside there's of the environment. 

Eventually one by one, all the various souls have pulled away from this planet as the white light got bigger and bigger. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire planet was consumed eventually by this odd light. I was soon dragged off as well by a gigantic skeletal hand which was far different from the other ones.

The others were dragged by two hands, one angelic and pure white, the other a fiery rock hand with magma flowing through its veins. So I was screaming internally as my form began to shift around once more, becoming more human but still retaining its ghostly visage as I appeared in a black void with a gray podium in front of me, that had a book wide open on it. 

I slowly approached it still very much confused at what just happened, also still processing the fact that I had just died as well as a bunch of other people who were dragged away by different mysterious hands. For right now though I approached the book/podium hoping it had some answers to my situation.

Honestly, it happened so fast that I couldn't properly process what was happening so my best bet was hoping whatever entity grabbed me could explain. Touching the book a large white screen appeared from it and began revealing black-colored words that almost blended fully with the void. 

{Hello Mortal, if you reading this that means your life is now over alongside the rest of your species who are currently being sorted between fellow employers.}

{Now the reason for all this is well it's not humanity or any mortal being's fault for that matter but solely the blame of the deity who created you.}

{You see in higher dimensions the process of creating life while a somewhat easy process, but it still needs to be regulated.}

{Your planet, unfortunately, violated this process and thus needed to be destroyed before new souls could be born, sorry about that.}

{But that doesn't mean we'll destroy the souls already born there, so we're sorting out those who died from this event and giving them to various employers with an offer much like right now.}

{Now the kind of being I am...well Death is probably the closest we can get to a proper name as it would be complicated to explain.}

{Well the job I plan to offer you involves this as well and the opportunity to become a god yourself, albeit under my employment.}

{You see unfortunately events like this are too common and cause ripples throughout the multiverse I believe humans would call it.}

{Maning that souls of all living creatures are affected as well and well new creatures have been born from the corruption of their souls.}

{Meaning I need to delegate someone to take care of it on mass in any form they wish, you can form an organization or do it solo either way works.}

{Your job is to take care of it and make sure the worlds are properly watched and that the balance of these worlds is kept.}

{Now you won't be invincible so be sure to get stronger if you have the chance, better safe than sorry after all.}

{Now let's discuss pay and benefits, the payment for this task is your godhood alongside a literally endless budget and no I am not joking, material goods mean less the higher up in the dimensional food chain you go.}

{You get to travel a lot and experience all kinds of different worlds, so please feel free to have some fun while on the job, don't want to become a work alcoholic.}

{You also have the option for a vacation once in a while but you only get one every 25 years, so use them wisely and make sure not to do any work while on vacation unless it can't be avoided in which case please make sure to tell me so I can reimburse you and give you a chance for a real vacation.}

Then a gigantic cartoonish hand appeared doing the finger guns for some strange reason.
