Chapter 7: Bulak Serpent

After Red left the village he relied on his memories to arrive at a swamp located on the west side of the village.

There he observed a group of snakes swimming in the swamp, resting on trees, or dragging their bodies throughout in the form of loops.

Even though this was just a game, Red's flesh still couldn't help but crawl. Out of all the horror movies he watched as a kid, 7 out of 10 of them are about snakes.

Taking a deep breath, Red focused on formulating his plan of action. Once he did that, his brows loosened as his attention was now focused on how to deal with his childhood nightmares.

"With how much strength I have, I can finish these monsters with two hits on their weak spots." Done with his deliberation, Red tip-toed to the nearest snake.

The one he set his sight on was on a tree, compared to other snakes swimming and slithering on the ground they are the easiest to kill. When attacking them, they can only defend themselves passively as their bodies were wrapped in the tree.

Of course, they could also choose to uncoil themselves but that would cause them fall damage and a stun that would last for 1 second. Ultimately, the only real choice that the monster had was to die or die faster.

Without a doubt, the snake turned into a speck of light without a hassle. Red managed to obtain 5 EXP and snake meat as a reward. Faced with success, Red decided to find another target and employ the same trick. He continued with this strategy till he couldn't spot any more snakes coiled on the trees.

Checking his inventory, Red nodded when he saw the number of snake meat in his possession. He was ready to find trouble with the wolves.

On his way to the wolf's territory, Red chanced upon a 'stray' wolf. Stopping in his tracks, a smile slowly formed on his face.

"Hehe, come to granny sweety" Red clapped as he beckoned at the wolf, causing it to turn towards him with visible lines on its furrhead (forehead).

In truth, monsters in Overworld don't have a fixed spawn location. It's common for players to spot other types of monsters on another territory.

Usually, those 'invaders' were on the same level as the original occupants just like the 'stray' that was in front of Red. But there were also cases where players were unfortunate to encounter a high-level monster in a low-level zone. This resulted in parties being wiped out followed by many people's complaints.

Facing this bunch, the developers replied that it adds to the realism of the game. And if they want monsters that obediently lay down where they should be on the map, they kindly recommend switching to other VR games in the market.

In the end, this incident not only caused the players to quit but also garner praise from other players, which resulted in more people buying the VR helmets and entering Overworld.

Seeing the unfamiliar Orc, the wolf bared its fangs and prepared to attack. Pouncing on Red like it had a spring for feet, the monster entertained the thought of having him for lunch.

Red reacted by pulling out his club and swinging it toward the head of the wolf. Grunting, the wolf forcefully twisted its body in mid-air. Anticipating its action, the wooden club sped up its descent and found its mark.

Caught off guard, the wolf was momentarily stunned. Though brief, every second in battle can decide the difference between the winner and the loser.

Grasping the opportunity, Red ditched numerous attacks on its head. Poor wolf, its stun was yet to be over before it was hit in the head again and again refreshing its control duration.

Red only stopped when the wolf made its last whimper and turned into specks of light.
