"In the world full of choices, I have only you!" *** Excerpt: “Marry me!” At the commanding voice, Yun Meiyi turned around with a scowl. And there he was with a face sculpted by the best artists in heaven and a body designed to torture the most defying soul in hell, he looked like any male, she had fantasized about, while reading the romantic novels. But there was something in his impeccable beauty that cautioned her against him. As if it was the call of heaven asking her to reject him straight away. “Look for someone else, I am not interested.” She said and then turned away, finding his words meaninglessly arrogant. But just as she turned, his warning came teasingly, “Are you sure you want to defy me?” Her frown deepened as she turned to ask, “What’s so special about defying you? Are you a lord of some kingdom whom one can’t defy?” The man’s lips curled up in a devilish smirk that looked like a part of his nature. “Even better. I am the Prince of Darkness. The Devil of this universe.” *** She was a human... He was the Devil of the Universe! She was betrayed... He could be called anything that meant deceit! She was poisoned ... Yun Meiyi heard him but didn't want to get bothered with it. So, turning around, she tried to open the door of the car once again but when she found the door still locked, she felt her last ounce of patience getting tested. Still holding onto the silver line left in her, she closed her eyes to calm herself down and asked with utmost politeness.
"Will you be opening the door or not?"
Even though her words were dripping with politeness, the hint of warning it held was also not hidden. She was clear to be heard along with her words.
But if the Devil ever feared the warning, how would he still be called a Devil? He was known to break the rules for centuries and has gotten accustomed enough to his own created traditions.
Not wavering from his stance, he asked. His tone matched the intensity of hers yet it did not come out in a way that could threaten her. "What should I do to make you believe my words?"
Yun Meiyi looked at him and when he felt childishly stubborn, she couldn't help but grumble in anguish. "Argh! Do you want me to believe in your stupid talks? Like really?"
"Those are not stupid talks, rather the truth that humans couldn't understand. But you are different."
"I am no different. I am a human who breathes and bleeds." Yun Meiyi was first to interrupt. "But since you want to prove yourself immortal Devil so desperately, then I have a way. If you want then you can take up the challenge."
She said and the man stared at her as if waiting for her to speak of the challenge. Yun Meiyi also read his expression and continued with a craftiness on her face. "You said you are the Prince of Darkness who rules hell, right?"
The man nodded. His ambers held a tinge of expectation that Yun Meiyi failed to notice.
"Since you are the Devil, the Universe must be a playground to you. Bring me the shiniest star from the Milky Way and I would believe you." She said and the man arched his brows of amusement at her.
"A star?"
He asked and Yun Meiyi shook her head, dissatisfied with his choice of words. "Not just any star. I want the shiniest of them all. I heard Milky Way has got many stars, being the Devil, bringing one for me wouldn't be tough for you. After all, you are asking me to marry you."
She said and the man smiled at her. Yun Meiyi didn't know if she had seen through her craftiness or not, but since he has asked her to present him with the challenge, she wouldn't be agreeing at any less.
"What? Will it be tough for you?" She deviously probed, blinking her eyes full of innocence. "If yes, then it's okay. You don't have to make an effort. Just get busy in your own life while I get busy on my own. Okay?"
She said, already believing that the man would accept the defeat and pull back. But the next moment, he asked, "If I fulfill your demand, would you promise to do what you have said?"
Yun Meiyi paused before tugging her brows in confusion to ask, "What?"
To which the man repeated again to clarify her own presented challenge. "If I bring you the shiniest star, would you agree to marry me at your own will?"
Yun Meiyi frowned at his words. He was once again meaninglessly confident. Did he really think that he could just go and bring the shiniest start of the universe?
Knowing that he would never be able to get any star down on earth, she nodded confidently. "Yes, if you bring me the shiniest star of the Universe, I would marry you." She said only to see him smile back at her.
Her lips almost sullenly pouted at that arrogant smile. But then not letting it get on her expression, she composed herself back to say, "Now, will you open the door? I want to get down from your car."
The man turned to look back at the road and said, "You won't get any rides here. So, it's okay, I will send you to your place."
"No need. I will arrange something." Yun Meiyi rejected straight away.
But the man simply curled the corner of his lips and said, "Since you have already stated your demands, I won't make it tough for you now. You can relax and sit back. I will drop you back at your place in silence."
Yun Meiyi looked at him and pursed her lips. "So, you knew that you were making things tough for me? Yet you still said those stupid things? Was it fun to tease me like that?" She asked, frowning slightly.
"Even though it's fun to tease humans, I have yet to tease you. Furthermore, I would repeat again whatever I said isn't something stupid, but something that's hard for you to believe. But you would believe it soon, once you see me bring you the star." He said and at the latter part of his words, Yun Meiyi felt her heart skip a beat.
Bringing the star down from the sky was such a romantic phrase that lovers use to profess their love. While here they were using it simply to prove the point that she knew was simply not possible. And still on top of that his words felt like they were affecting her heart. What was even happening to her?
She felt her cheeks burn suddenly and she knew if not looked away soon, the man would see the hue of redness flushing on her cheeks. So, quickly looking away, she said, "Didn't you say that you would drive in silence? So, let's make it that way."
The man wasn't affected in any way, so his expressions remain passive. Humming to her request, he nodded and the rest of the journey went on in silence where Yun Meiyi didn't dare to look back at the man even for once.
