Chapter 44

“You planned this yesterday, didn’t you?” he said.

“Guilty as charged,” Carlton said. “I took a quick look at the golf cart’s battery yesterday and saw that it needed some juice.” He unplugged the cart, secured the cord, and looked at Eric. “All aboard.”

Carlton drove the golf cart to the front of the property, turned it around and stopped, so they could get a look at the house from the bottom of the garden.

“The place looks good, doesn’t it?” Eric said.

“Yeah, and you and Rusty can take credit for that.”

“You’ll have to give a bit of credit to your mother and her imagination. Creating a maze was a great idea, although it’ll be several years before the hedges in the maze are high enough to really work.”

Carlton pressed the accelerator pedal, and the golf cart began to move slowly up the driveway.
