The Wastelands

She stared out at the land in disbelief at what she was seeing.  She took in a shuddering breath and slowly turned around, tears sliding down her cheeks and falling from her chin. Echo shakily walked off the platform and tightened her grip on the pistol. She checked around the structures and the vehicles for anything useful, to which she ended up finding some more ammo, some rad-packs, and stimpaks as well as a few bobby-pins.

She walked down the path that had once led her to what was supposed to be a safe haven from the bombs and back to the small town of Sanctuary.

She took in her surroundings as she walked, jumping at the slightest of sounds. She was scared, confused, angry, and sad all at once. The once beautiful world she knew was gone, now nothing but a nuclear wasteland.

She steers off the path and onto the very broken and cluttered road. She looked around before hearing what sounded like a human voice and a robotic voice in the distance to her left. She immediately turned towards it, readjusting her hold on the pistol. As she drew closer she noticed the bright blue vault 111 jumpsuit and a handybot.

"H-hey!" She called out to then causing both to immediately turn in her direction. She heard a male's gasp and watched as the vault dweller, liked herself, tan in her direction.

"Echo?!" She gasped as she recognized the voice of Dylan, her neighbor. She ran towards him and immediately embraced him, and he doing the same with her. "I can't believe it... I thought you were dead like the others." Dylan's voice spoke in her ear

"I.. my God." She hugged him tighter and finally broke down. Dylan comforted her by rubbing her back and cooed comforting things to her. Finally letting go of each other the two stepped back and just looked at each other and burst into laughter, it wasn't amused but more of relieved and happy laughter.

————————————Time Skip——————————

Dylan and Echo had taken sometime to catch up before they set off.  The pair were now carefully crossing the badly damaged bridge while staring at what seemed to be a mutated dog and the corpse of a human. Echo immediately covered her mouth once the stench of rotting flesh hit her causing her to gag. "Oh God that's awful."

Dylan grunted in agreement as he quickened the pace to get away from the smell, Echo right on his heels. The two continued walking for a few more minutes before they came across the gas station. Echo started walking towards it while Dylan seemed to hesitate before following her reluctantly, she swept her gaze over the rickety structure and gasped when she heard a dog bark. The two watched as a German Shepherd ran up to greet them. Dylan immediately knelt down and began to pet the dog, "Hey buddy."

The dog barked happily at the attention and whined. "Would you like to come with us?" The dog barked yet again as if he was responding to Dylan.

Echo smiled faintly at the duo before sighing, "We should see what we can get from here before continuing onwards."
