Upon reaching the city gate, Shen Qi glanced at Xie Mingwang and casually pointed at two guards. “You, and you, protect Xie Mingwang.”
“As you command.”
“If you encounter Liang Zhongyun, tell him that this matter was orchestrated by the princess herself. Any grievances should be directed towards her.” Shen Qi let down the carriage curtain.
“The rest of you, accompany the princess to the palace to the emperor!”
“Yes.”
The two guards acknowledged and tightly guarded Xie Mingwang by his side.
Shen Qi’s carriage slowly made its way towards the palace, while Xie Mingwang watched her recede into the distance, his gaze gradually losing its luster. “Mr. Xie?”
The guard looked at the motionless Xie Mingwang and softly called out.
Only then did Xie Mingwang snap out of his daze and bowed to the two guards. “I am grateful for your concern regarding my safety.”
“It is our duty.” The guards quickly waved their hands and escorted Xie Mingwang back to the inn.
