Smithereens. Chapter 04.

Although it was difficult —and almost impossible— Sofia stopped crying. She stopped blaming herself for things that weren't worth it. She could feel happier —and she began to sleep better. But most of all, she stopped hearing those horrible voices.

Now, Sofia was lying on her bed, while the light from the lamp illuminated her and she was reading one of her favorite novels.

«Nothing can go wrong», she thought.

The clock struck nine at night, so, she put the book away and went to sleep. That was her plan until she saw a figure resting on the door frame. She did not hesitate and she smiled at that person that she loved so much.

—Shall we have a sleepover?

It was what her younger sister, Emma, asked her before she fell into the arms of Morpheus. Without thinking twice, Sofía nodded and moved across the mattress, making a space for her.

The following were laughter and warm talks that reminded Sofía of the why of her sudden tranquility when she was not crying silently in her dark room a few years ago.

The simple and unique company of her sister could turn the worst day of all into one of the happiest of her entire life. Yes, Emma was a great sister and there was no doubt about it. Emma knew about Sofía's situation —even better than her mother— so when her older sister decided to confess her problems and fears, she did not leave her, she did not even look at her as if she were a weirdo. She brought Sofia's body close and hugged her, while she pronounced:

—I will never abandon you. No one will be able to separate me from your side because I will not allow it. Never.

Emma was the only person who could use her soul as a blank canvas and stain it with the most striking colors, and Sofia would not blame her, because if it was her younger sister, she would fully trust her even if she was blindfolded.

That's why she was scared to know that one day Emma would leave her side. She knew she would, she had a future ahead of her and she was too afraid to lose her along the way. She was terrified to imagine that her sister would no longer be by her side and she would have to face the world alone. No, Sofia was not capable of doing that. She would break on the first try. Therefore, that night she placed her hands on Emma's waist and hugged her. She hugged her tightly as if to say:

—I'm not going to let you get away from me, because I need you. I need you or I'm sure I'll die trying to save myself.

Then she closed her eyes and traveled through the dream world while she smiled.

She was lost and there was no doubt about it.
