There's Things that Even Angels Cannot Do

We boarded the high speed rail by class, and once in the bullet train, we were allowed to choose where we sat. The seats on this train could be adjusted so that the column in front can be made to face the one behind. Therefore, the seating arrangements ended up being Loyd, Noah, and I sitting in a column near the front of the train car while facing Irina, Muria, and Mura. Mura day with us because as a teacher she needed somewhere to sit and since Muria's her younger sister, she chose to sit next to us. As for Emilia, she sat in the seat on the other side of the walkway alone since not all the seats were filled up due to absences.

"This is kinda awkward..." I heard Noah whisper to me as he forced a smile in order to maintain an innocent student facade.

I could sense unease from both Loyd and Noah, but there was none from Irina and Muria. They chatted with Mura with no regards for the difference in their status, which I believe might've resulted from that one night Irina spent over at Muria's place of residence.

"Why don't you go and talk with your cousin over there?" I whispered to Noah and looked in Emilia's direction.

"Well..." Noah said to me. "Let me put it this way. I won't be as free as I was before."

"So she's quite restrictive..." I muttered.

I then took out my phone in order to finish connecting the smart watch with my phone. It wirelessly connects to my phone, so whenever I get a call, I can answer the call using the watch if I wanted. In addition, there was also apps that I can download on the watch itself so that it could be used to monitor my health. Come to think of it, what the watch does, my phone could do. But, the real value of the watch is the aesthetics it provided. I'm still grateful that Irina got it for me though. It's a cool gift.

Talking about gifts... I placed a hand on my chest, feeling the key necklace that I wore on my neck from underneath my school uniform. I frowned as I recalled once again about what Luna will ultimately go through. I still cannot believe that she's someone whose days were numbered. She's just so... energetic. It's as if the disease was simply a lie...

I looked to my right and at the two angels. These two are servants to God, so they must know things that I do not. If I'm able to talk to them, then I might be able to find out more.

I tapped on Noah's shoulders, drawing his attention. "I need to use the restroom," I said.

"Go ahead," Noah looked at me in confusion and looked at the large open space between our column of seats and the one the girls were seated on. "There's plenty of room for you to leave."

"Come with me," I then said to the boy, forcing him up from his seat and into the walkway. Then, I turned to Emilia. "You know where's the restroom?"

"I'll show you," she sighed as she got up. I knew from simply looking at her that it was an act. She knows what I was thinking and was simply coming up with an excuse to leave the scene so we may talk.

"Thank you."

I bowed my head slightly at her as she led us out the sliding door that was at the very front of the seating area in the train car and into the small room beyond it with a door that will lead to the next train car. In this tiny room, there was the entrance/exit to the bullet train as well as the restrooms. However, our target was never the restroom in the first place.

"What is it?" Noah whined. "If it's the restroom then go."

"It's not that, right?" Emilia smiled at me in a manner that was as if she was able to read my mind. It was a mysterious smile, one that she often expressed on her face.

"Yeah," I said. "It's about Luna."

"The student council president?" Noah said in a questioning tone. "What? You got her pregnant?"

"No," I sighed and shook my head."It's about—"

"Her disease," Emilia finished for me while maintaining that mysterious smile on her face.

"Right," I said with a lowered head. "Is she really going to—"

"She'll die," Emilia responded with a stern countenance on her face. "And there's no way to prevent her death. It's inevitable, even for us."

"..."

I stared at the ground in melancholy after being delivered this news. Emilia's words, like her facial expression, were so cold, like a realist that had forgotten to dream... She spoke with no euphemism, trying to deliver me the fact in the quickest and most efficient way possible by making things clearer than clear. There was a lack of mercy on her end, one that once again proved opposite to the angels in the scriptures.

I felt that same throbbing anguish within my heart as it filled all the way up to my throat. It was as if the moodiness had materialized into air and was stuck within me, filling my existence with the dark energy until they will one day threaten to burst out...

"Don't be so sad, Alevian," Noah said as he patted my back. "You still have time left with her."

"I can't prevent her death," Emilia said as she stared at me with those cold eyes of her's, "but I can tell you when she'll die—"

"I don't need that!" I said in a raised voice, surprising Noah but eliciting no reaction from Emilia.

I didn't care about the chance that those in the seating area could hear us. All that mattered to me at that moment was an anger that seemed to have rose from nothing. This fire burned with great fervor within me, incinerating myself. I knew that I shouldn't be blaming them for their inabilities to help, but... I just can't bring myself to see things rationally anymore. Before all this, I probably would've been able to, but... my time with Luna had changed me.

"Is that all?" she asked. "If that's it then I'm heading back."

"I don't understand," I said as she walked past me and towards the door. "Why can you angels be so similar to us humans and yet so merciless as well?"

"..." She remained silent for a second before she slid open the door and returned to her seat, leaving only Noah and I standing there alone.

"Cheer up," Noah said, trying to help me raise my spirits.

"Noah..." I looked at him with defeat in my eyes. "Why?"

"..." He observed my face and then let out a sigh. "I was told by Ralus," he started, "that us angels were formerly humans. That's why we're so like humans in our emotions. But... being angels seemed to have altered us in certain ways, causing us to think with a sanity that just seemed insane. I'm still pretty young in angel terms," he explained, "so I'm more human than both Emilia and Ralus. But... because I'm still not used to it, I'm often scared. Scared at how calm and cold we become when making certain decisions..."

"..." I remained silent as I listened in on his words.

"So... please don't blame Emilia," he said with an apologetic smile. "She has a lot on her mind as well," he said as he stared out the window that was situated on the door that led out of the train car which was currently shut tight. "Both her and Ralus..."

"..." I continued to listen in on his words and remained mute.

"I'll do my best and see if there's a way to help her," Noah then turned to me. "I promise you that."

I let out a sigh. Like I've stated before, deep down, Noah is really a nice person. By looking at his eyes, I could tell that he was being honest. Staring into those blue eyes of his, I saw a true tranquil garden within him where flowers of all varieties and colors bloomed. However, in a small corner of that garden, a few white flowers sprouted, the same white flowers that appeared to abundant in the garden within Emilia.

"I'll leave ya here for now," Noah then said. "You might need some time to calm down before returning."

Then, he walked to the door and disappeared, leaving me standing there alone. In my heart, that fire burned on. However, it was slowly dying out. When it did die out though, I discovered that the flames of anger had left behind nothing for me except destruction to my own soul.
