“Yeah, yeah,” she slapped his shoulder and pulled back. “Whatever. Hit up the locals, let me know when you’ve found a bunch of gorgeous ones to perv on and I’ll come down there.”

“Your version of gorgeous, or everyone else’s?”

“Mine,” she said, and rolled her eyes. “Duh. Go on, get lost. It’s nearly eleven.”

Shane smiled, and took a step towards the road—and stopped when Luke neither moved nor let go of his hand.

“I have to go.”

“I don’t want you to.”

“I know,” Shane said, and pulled. “Walk me home, then.” He didn’t add for the last time.

“Go on,” Rebecca said, pushing Luke’s shoulder gently. “We’ll walk up and get the bus back together, me and Soph.”

“Yeah, sod off,” Sophie added.

“Sophie!” Rebecca protested, but Shane tugged on Luke’s hand and Luke finally unrooted himself and followed.
