Chapter 48: Sacrifice, Part 4

There was very little left of the temple. The pavilion was shattered in many places, entire stones missing. Two of the five columns in the front of the temple had collapsed completely, and of the remaining three, one looked set to collapse at any moment. The roof itself was long gone, broken and scattered.

But still the presence of magic was strong enough that Alrin hesitated to approach without a Priest to convey the Goddesses' permission. Korin was not there, however, and he had orders. Leaving the artificial safety of the canyon, he forged on across the broken, snowy pavilion, scales scraping, claws clicking, the fire still burning on his hands turning snow to steam for fleeting moments. More snow melted on his scales and into his clothes before it too was turned into steam by the heat of his body.
