CHAPTER 5.2

Someone's Point of view

My hands are clasped tightly around my Mom's as we walk into the abandoned warehouse. I've been asking her what we're doing here for ages, but she won't answer. All I get are sighs, tearful glances, and quick hugs. It's all starting to get really confusing.

For the hundredth time, I look at her. It's so dark, so I pull my phone out of my pocket and turn on the flashlight. I sweep the beam around us.

"Mom, this doesn't feel right. What are we doing here?" I ask again.

When she still doesn't answer, I point the light at her face. "Mom! We need to be at the hospital!"

I'm trying so hard not to get irritated. I've been asking her questions for what feels like forever, but she just ignores me. Her eyes are fixed on the floor.

Then, she starts sobbing and comes towards me, hugging me tightly.

"I'm sorry, my child... I don't know any other way to cure your leukemia."

She pulls away and strokes my cheek. Even though I'm confused, I suddenly feel tears welling up in my eyes after she says that.

She takes my hands. "But my child, don't worry, because after tonight, your illness will be gone. You'll never get sick again. There are people who will help us, they're coming."

My brow furrows in confusion and I look around frantically.

When I look back at her, I'm about to ask, "Mom, what do you mean -?"

But I can't finish the question. I'm too shocked to speak. Standing behind my Mom, I see a woman. She's smiling, and I shiver when I see her sharp, pointed fangs.

"Mom!" I yelled, pulling her away from the woman as fast as I could.

I stared at what she was wearing. It was a nurse's uniform, like an ordinary person. But her eyes...

The black parts were red, and the white parts were black!

Her expression changed, like she was putting on a sad act. She looked down at her clothes.

"Oh, no... I went through the effort to dress like this, to look less scary and more convincing!" she said, looking back at us.

"But let's just say that maybe I'm not really a nurse... But your mom is right, you'll be healed tonight!" she said, grinning again.

I was trembling, speechless. I clung tighter to Mom, feeling her shaking too.

The woman started walking towards us, so I pulled Mom back.

But I gasped when I bumped into someone behind me. I whipped around, letting out a scream and stumbling backward when I saw a man. His eyes were the same color, and he was grinning, like he was showing off his fangs on purpose.

He was wearing a white coat over scrubs, and a stethoscope hung around his neck.

"Chill, dear... I'm a doctor..." he said with a smile.

But I didn't say anything, just clung tighter to Mom.

"Oh, you're not convinced?" he asked, sounding disappointed.

I screamed as he appeared in front of me, as fast as a flash of wind, holding the chest piece of his stethoscope in one hand.

The woman in the nurse's uniform appeared beside him.

"Let me help you, Doc." she said sarcastically, slipping the earpiece onto the "doctor's" head.

A moment later, he looked at me and smiled. "Inhale... Exhale..."

He slowly pressed the chest piece against my chest. My heart pounded, my body growing cold with fear as his face came closer to mine.

"Oh no... Your heart rhythm seems irregular. I'm going to need to do some further testing to determine the cause, okay?"

He glanced at the woman beside him and nodded, signaling her. In a blink, she was suddenly there, grabbing my arms tightly.

My eyes widened as another man in a nurse's uniform appeared beside Mom, grabbing her arm.

"Mom!!" I screamed.

"What the heck?! Let go of us!" Finally, I found my voice, yelling as they pulled us apart. I struggled to break free.

The Doctor moved closer to me and took my hand. The woman in the nurse's uniform gripped my arms tighter. No matter how hard I tried to pull away, I couldn't escape.

"They said you have leukemia, your Mom did... Oh, that's a long and expensive treatment if you stay in the hospital, dear..." the male doctor droned on.

I felt the cold breath of the female nurse on my neck, sending shivers down my spine.

"But with me... It's free and guaranteed..."

That was the last thing she said before she opened her mouth and seemed to go for my wrist.

I closed my eyes and waited for whatever was going to happen next.

But then, I felt the grip on my back loosen. I opened my eyes and saw the Doctor in front of me, a look of surprise on his face, looking over my shoulder.

I looked down when I heard something fall.

My eyes widened as I saw a woman's head roll on the floor. Her face was full of fear, her eyes wide open.

I turned to look behind me and saw the decapitated body of the nurse from earlier; when it fell to the ground, a man suddenly appeared before me.

But he disappeared suddenly, and I felt the doctor release my hand. When I turned back to the front, the man was already there, violently grabbing the doctor's arms and throwing him to the floor as if he were just a light pillow.

I covered my mouth in shock as I witnessed the doctor's body fall to the ground like a torn-up mannequin, the impact separating parts of his body and scattering them across the floor.

"My Child!" Mom's cry pierced the air, her voice thick with worry. I turned to see her running towards me, tears streaming down her face. The man who'd been holding her was sprawled on the floor, his body already starting to rot and decay.

She hugged me tightly, her hands trembling. She kept apologizing, over and over.

I stayed silent, unable to respond to her embrace.

It wasn't anger, but shock that held me speechless. Everything that had happened felt like a dream…

A terrible nightmare.

That guy who saved me just did a killing spree in front of us...
