I dropped my suitcase in front of the lab doors. Pulling out the key that I was given and opened the door. Looking back at the empty buildings of this small town i knew this was gonna be a rough start to my career as a researcher.

At least in this job I wouldn't be compared to my father who beat the elite four at the age of 12. I sighed, I had tried the whole pokemon trainer life and I was left with constant struggles.

I entered the dark lab and turned on the light switch. Taking in the smell of cobwebs and moldy books I brought my suitcase in. For now it was all I had, well have had as well. An old computer sat in the far corner and books lined various shelves. A single table was aligned in the center of the room. A staircase was on the right side next to a door that lead to another room.

Choosing to go up the stair case I found it led to bedroom. Besides the obvious bed, a second computer, a small kitchen and a dresser. The dresser was filled with old lab coats. Picking one out and checking the size I found it would fit me. Which was good since I only had a few items of clothing. Placing my suit case down I head back down the stair case.

Checking where the door led I found it led to a storage room. Not much was in it, but I could look through the boxes later. Finding a second door and some windows I looked out to an overgrown fenced field. I would need to cut the grass out there.

Turning back to the boxes I popped a few open. The first had some old books inside. Some good material and some old material. Actually looking at the books it was fairly intriguing. Books about people uh marrying pokemon and varying other incredible theories and... Blueprints!

Blueprints resembling pokeballs. More specifically far more advance pokeballs then the current pokeballs in circulation. Powerful potion recipes and some very good growth formula. Like a Exp Share or Power Brace. My interest was peaked and I was removed from my depression for a good moment.

opening the next box I found a portrait of... me? It was an old picture of me as a child and my grandfather. He was smiling beside me and my mother and father. I didn't remember this photo. I took it out though. I would put it beside my bed along with my other personal pictures. Looking at the box it seemed this box was full of memories. My father's childhood red hat along with my mother's necklace. I could close this one up freely.

Looking to the next box it had more useful trinkets. An old old pokeball, The first model of a pokeball in fact. Some old bike parts, a unused bike voucher. A clunky pokeblock blender. A couple of old gym badges that seem outdated. The last items were several dozen pokedexes completely filled pokedexes.

The next box was a box of equipment items. Amulet coins, equipment item like assault vests and rocky helms. Mailing envelopes and a key chain of a literal shit ton of keys. One matched the key I was given to open the lab so it must be keys to surrounding buildings. At the bottom of the box was a bunch of seeds. I could recognize a few of them like sitrus berry seeds and some white herb seeds.

More boxes led to more items. Elemental plates, Fossils, and Gemstones. From Evolution stones to Unawakened mega stones. Some varying poke flutes. Computer disks and electronic parts. An egg incubator and even what looked like some kind of...

The seal tube I was looking at had the substance inside moving. This would certainly need research I would need to come back to whatever this fluid was. Packing up all the boxes I got up and headed back to the front of the lab. I tripped on my way though.

Picking up the object of my fall it was one of the old pokeballs. I was gonna put it back in the chest, but this one had a small almost dying light on it. The light indicated it had a pokemon stored within it. Whatever was inside likely was... I took the pokeball and the tube of fluid and placed them into the front lab. I would need to look at the other pokeballs and see if they had stored unfortunate pokemon.

I carried the ring of mystery keys out the lab. It was time to see which keys went to where. The first key opened what was supposed to be my house. A small plaque read oak residence on the mail box and I opened the door. The house was small with rotting floor boards and a kitchen living room combo. Two staircases led to different bedrooms. One was a kids room and the other was a very basic bedroom.

The following houses of the area shared the Oak residence layout and condition. I would need to send an invoice to the town over for renovations. I didn't have much money I would need to trade something perhaps. I sighed, this would be either a new notch in my nightmare or beginning of something new. I hope it was something new, any more down hill sprints would torture me.
