It had been several days since Captain Valen and his soldiers had left the forest, their minds no doubt filled with thoughts of Daniel and the Pokémon he had introduced them to. In that time, Daniel had returned to his routine of maintaining the forest, carefully summoning more Pokémon to establish a delicate balance between nature and its new inhabitants. The forest was now a sanctuary of life, where Pokémon thrived and grew under his careful watch. However, Daniel had a nagging feeling that the peace wouldn't last forever.
One afternoon, while Daniel was overseeing a group of small Pokémon playing near the edge of the lake, a Lucario suddenly approached him. The Aura Pokémon had a calm yet focused expression. Daniel could sense that something was amiss.
Lucario communicated through their shared telepathy that there was a man camping on the border of the forest. He had apparently been there for over a day.
Daniel's brow furrowed slightly. It wasn't uncommon for travelers to pass near the edges of the forest, but most avoided going too deep. The rumors of strange creatures had likely made the nearby villagers cautious. But a lone man camping just outside the forest for an extended time? That was unusual.
"Thank you, Lucario," Daniel said calmly, standing up and dusting off his hands. "I'll go see what this visitor wants. Stay here and communicate to the others that you all must keep an eye on things while I'm gone, i have a feeling that I'll be leaving for a while."
Lucario nodded and quietly slipped back into the trees, vanishing into the shadows as quickly as it had appeared. Daniel took a deep breath, focusing his thoughts. He knew that this might be something more than a curious traveler. Captain Valen's men had surely reported back to the town, and it was possible that word had spread about the forest and its inhabitants.
After a brief moment of thought, Daniel decided which Pokémon to take with him. There was only one choice that felt right for this particular encounter—Abra, the Psychic-type Pokémon. Abra had a shy nature, but it was capable of incredible feats of teleportation and could sense danger from a distance.
Given the delicate nature of what might unfold, Abra's presence would provide reassurance for Daniel while also being a good example when he would need to explain the intracacies of Pokémon to others.
Daniel closed his eyes and summoned the small Pokémon. The familiar warmth of summoning spread through his body, and when he opened his eyes, Abra was sitting quietly before him, its eyes closed as usual, its body floating a few inches above the ground.
"Come on, Abra," Daniel said softly. "You'llbe staying with me for a while."
Abra tilted its head slightly as if acknowledging Daniel's words, then floated closer, its presence calm and reassuring.
As Daniel made his way toward the southern edge of the forest, Abra floated beside him, never touching the ground but always staying close. The forest around them seemed to quiet as they moved, the Pokémon sensing that something was happening beyond their sanctuary.
After a short walk, Daniel reached the outskirts of the forest and spotted the small campsite. A single tent was pitched just outside the treeline, and a young man, dressed in the attire of a town messenger, sat by a small fire, looking rather nervous. He seemed to be staring into the flames, occasionally glancing toward the forest as if expecting something—or someone.
Daniel stepped out from between the trees, his presence immediately drawing the messenger's attention. The man stood quickly, his expression shifting from surprise to relief as he noticed Daniel approaching.
"Greetings," the messenger called out, his voice respectful but a little shaky. "I wasn't sure if you would come."
Daniel offered a small smile as he approached. "I was informed that someone had been waiting here for a while. What brings you to the edge of the forest?"
The messenger gave a polite bow before speaking. "Hello, sir. I've been sent by the town council of Nahir. They have requested an audience with you. They've heard reports about the Pokémon in the forest, and they wish to speak with you in person."
Daniel studied the man for a moment. There was no hostility in his words, only respect. It seemed the council was approaching this situation carefully, likely in part due to Captain Valen's influence.
"Why didn't you enter the forest?" Daniel asked, his tone curious but not accusatory.
Arlen straightened up, his expression turning slightly anxious. "I didn't want to intrude, sir. Captain Valen spoke highly of you and the creatures within the forest. I thought it best to wait until I was noticed, rather than risk offending you or your Pokémon."
Daniel appreciated the messenger's caution. It showed that Valen had spoken well of him, enough to make the town approach with care rather than fear.
"Very well," Daniel said, his tone softening. "I will come to the village with you."
The messenger's face lit up with relief. "Thank you, sir. The council will be pleased to hear that you've accepted their invitation. I'll lead the way."
Daniel nodded, turning slightly toward Abra, who floated beside him, ever silent and still. "Abra will be the only Pokémon accompanying me."
Arlen glanced at the floating Pokémon with clear curiosity but quickly nodded in agreement. "Of course, sir. Shall we head to the village now?"
Without another word, the two of them set off toward Nahir. The man had been thoughtful enough to bring a spare horse, counting on the fact that he would be guiding Daniel back to the town.
Abra remained close to Daniel as his horse galloped along, its small form floating quietly by his side seemingly unbothered by the speed. Though it often kept its eyes closed, Abra's awareness of its surroundings was undeniable.
As they approached the village gates, Daniel noticed that the townspeople were already gathering. Word had likely spread about the strange creatures that Valen and his men had encountered, and now the villagers were eager to catch a glimpse of the mysterious figure who had tamed them. Eyes followed him as he walked through the gates, though no one dared approach him directly.
It was Abra, however, that seemed to capture the attention of the villagers. The Pokémon's gentle floating, its eyes perpetually closed as if in meditation, fascinated the onlookers. Children pointed and whispered to one another, while the adults watched with wary curiosity. Abra's demeanor was peaceful, but its mere presence—hovering effortlessly through the air—seemed to cast an aura of awe around it.
Daniel kept his gaze forward, sensing the whispers but paying them no mind. Abra, too, seemed unfazed, though its tail twitched occasionally in response to the attention.
After weaving through the village, they finally reached the town's council building. It was modest, like the rest of Nahir, but well-kept and clearly important to the town's governance. The messenger opened the door for Daniel, gesturing for him to enter. As he stepped inside, Abra floated silently behind him, drawing a few surprised glances from the council members already seated around a large wooden table.
"Welcome, Daniel," came a voice from the head of the table. A man with a neatly trimmed beard and an air of authority. His tone was respectful, and his eyes showed no fear—only curiosity.
The other council members, just a handful in total, greeted Daniel with polite nods. It was clear that they had all been briefed about him and the Pokémon.
"Thank you for coming," the man continued. "We've heard much about you, and we are grateful that you've agreed to speak with us."
Daniel nodded in acknowledgment and took the seat offered to him. Abra floated beside him, earning a few glances, but none of the council members said anything about it.
"We won't waste your time," the councilman said, leaning forward slightly. "Captain Valen and his men returned to Nahir not long ago, and they shared with us their experiences in the forest. Needless to say, we were… intrigued by what they told us."
The Councilmans words hung in the air for a moment, and Daniel sensed that they were choosing their words carefully, likely to avoid giving offense.
"We understand that these creatures—these Pokémon—are under your care," another councilman continued. "The Captain and his men have now returned to the kingdom, likely to report directly to the King, though this gives us no direction in moving forward in relation to you and your forests inhabitants. This leaves us in a unique predicament."
Daniel listened intently, understanding the precariousness of the situation. The council had to balance the safety of their village with the knowledge that powerful creatures now lived on their doorstep.
"What is it you want from me?" Daniel asked calmly, though he already had an idea of what their request might be.
The head exchanged glances with the other council members before answering. "We want to ensure that there is peace between Nahir and the creatures in the forest, as well as yourself."
Daniel remained silent for a moment, considering his response. "I am here to protect the Pokémon, but I also wish to live in peace with your people. As long as there is no harm done to the creatures in the forest, I see no reason why we cannot coexist. In fact, I'd rather encourage it."
A wave of relief seemed to wash over the council members, though there was still an underlying tension.
"We are grateful for your understanding," the head of the Council said, bowing his head slightly. "And we will do everything in our power to keep the peace. However, the situation with the kingdom is beyond our control."
Daniel nodded, though his thoughts were already racing ahead. The kingdom's involvement was inevitable.
