Daven's shadow had disappeared into the trees, but the echo of the battle still echoed in Rael's mind. He had won, he had proved his worth, but the encounter had left a lasting impression on him. Daven had always been his toughest opponent, and though his victory brought him a sense of accomplishment, he knew that battle would not be his last.
Eira, walking beside him, watched Rael in silence. His friend seemed more serious than usual, deep in thought. The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows along the path to Green City, and the tranquility of nature contrasted with the inner tension Rael felt.
-Are you all right? -Eira finally asked, breaking the silence.
Rael nodded, although he still couldn't find the right words to express what was going through his mind.
-"Yeah, just... that battle was more important than I thought," he admitted, looking at Eevee, who was trotting happily along with them, showing no signs of the exhaustion Rael was feeling. Daven was always better than me at almost everything. He always made me feel like I wasn't good enough.
Eira looked at him with understanding. She knew what it was like to face someone else's shadow. She herself had dealt with expectations and comparisons in her own village before she left on her journey. Every trainer had something to overcome, whether it was rivals, fears or personal doubts.
-But you beat him, Rael," Eira said, stopping and turning to look directly at him. You defeated it with your skill and your bond with Eevee. That's what matters.
Rael smiled slightly. He knew Eira was right. The key to his victory hadn't been brute strength or complicated strategy. It had been the connection he had with Eevee, the mutual trust they had built since the day their journey began. As he thought about this, a new determination began to grow within him.
-You're right," he finally said, looking at Eevee with affection. No matter what happens in the future. I can always count on Eevee. He's more than a battle partner; he's my friend.
Eevee, as if he understood the meaning of Rael's words, walked over and jumped into his arms, rubbing his head against his trainer's chest. Rael hugged him, feeling a deep connection and recognizing that, no matter what challenges they faced, they would be together.
-Well, what now? -Eira asked, interrupting the moment of introspection. We've defeated Kai, passed the Green Forest test and you defeated your rival. What's next?
Rael looked towards the horizon, where the city was beginning to turn on its first lights. He still felt the excitement of the recent battles, but he knew his journey was far from over.
-I think it's time to challenge another gym," he said, his voice full of determination. If the Green City gym isn't available to us yet, then we'll go to the next one. We need to get stronger, and that means moving on.
Eira smiled.
-I like the sound of that. Have you thought about our next destination?
Rael nodded.
-Pewter. It's the closest city and has a gym that specializes in rock-type Pokémon. It will be a good challenge for us.
Eira pondered for a moment.
-Bulbasaur has an advantage against rock types, but Eevee? -She paused, looking at Eevee. We'll have to train hard to make sure it can be ready. Do you have a plan for that?
Rael smiled, already thinking of various strategies. He knew it would be difficult, but he was used to finding ways to overcome obstacles.
-We can work on moves that don't rely on physical strength alone. Eevee is fast and agile, and we can use that to our advantage. Plus, there's always the possibility of catching new Pokémon along the way.
Eira nodded, feeling excited about what was to come. With the plan in mind, both trainers headed towards the Pokémon center in Green City to rest and prepare for the next leg of their journey.
---
The Pokémon Center was packed with trainers, many of them fresh from their own adventures around the city. As they waited for Nurse Joy to heal their Pokémon, Rael and Eira observed the atmosphere. Some trainers were talking about the Pewter Gym, exchanging strategies and experiences.
-I heard that Pewter's leader, Brock, is one of the strongest trainers in the region," said one of the trainers near them. His rock-type Pokémon are practically unbeatable if you don't have the right type.
Rael paid attention. Brock was known for his prowess and leadership in Pewter's gym. Beating him would be a difficult task, but also a great opportunity to show how far he had come.
-Do you think we're ready to take on Brock? -Eira asked, looking at Rael with a mixture of excitement and concern.
Rael thought for a moment before answering.
-We may not be completely ready now, but we will be. Let's train along the way, capture some Pokémon if we have to, and make sure we can take him on with everything we've got.
Eira nodded, clearly motivated.
-Then we leave for Pewter tomorrow.
Rael nodded in response, determined. He knew the road wouldn't be easy, but that didn't stop him. Every step he took brought him closer to his goal of becoming a great Pokémon trainer, and with Eevee by his side, he felt that nothing was impossible.
---
That night, as they rested in their beds at the Pokémon center, Rael couldn't stop thinking about what was to come. His encounter with Daven had been a reminder of how far he had come, but also how much he still had yet to learn. However, he now felt more confident, more connected to Eevee and his mission.
He looked at Eevee, who was sleeping peacefully at the foot of his bed, and smiled. He knew that together they could overcome any obstacle.
Tomorrow would be a new day, full of new challenges, but Rael was ready to face them. The journey to Pewter and Brock's Gym would mark the next chapter in his adventure, and nothing excited him more than the fact that his true journey as a Pokémon trainer was just beginning.
