The atmosphere inside Monte Moon grew heavier as Rael and Eira advanced. The walls of the cave were covered with moss, and the echoing footsteps created a sense of isolation. Zubat continued to hover above their heads, but Rael felt increasingly confident with his team of Pokémon. The confrontation with Geodude had shown him that he could overcome any obstacle with the right strategy.
-This cave is bigger than I thought," Rael muttered as he looked at a fork in the path. Which way do we go?
Eira approached the map Rael was holding. The paper was crumpled from use, but it was still useful. She leaned against it and studied the forks carefully.
-According to the map, both paths should take us into deeper areas," she said, "but the path to the right is supposed to be less traveled. Maybe we can avoid other trainers if we go that way.
Rael nodded. He didn't mind facing other trainers, but he preferred to save his energy for what might come later. Without another word, they started down the tunnel to the right.
---
As they advanced, the light grew dimmer. The trainers' flashlights no longer lit the way, and the air grew colder. Rael pulled a small flashlight from his pack and shone a beam of light in front of them. The tunnel was narrow and the walls seemed to be closing in on them, adding to the feeling of claustrophobia.
-You know? -Eira said, breaking the awkward silence. This cave is said to have been home to ancient Pokémon millions of years ago. That's why there are fossils here. But more interestingly, some believe that certain Pokémon still live in the darkest depths, never before seen by humans.
Rael looked at them with interest.
-Pokémon that have never been discovered?
-Exactly. Although no one has been able to prove it. But I like to think that there are still secrets to be discovered in places like this.
Just as Eira finished speaking, a metallic sound echoed through the tunnel, stopping them both in their tracks. It was a low rumble, like something crawling across the rock. Rael turned off his flashlight so as not to attract attention, and they both remained silent, trying to identify the source of the sound.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was a Sandshrew, a small Pokémon with a tough, rock-like skin that seemed curious about their presence. The small Pokémon stopped a few feet away, watching them with interest.
-It's a Sandshrew! -Rael whispered excitedly.
-Now would be a good time to catch it," Eira said, stepping back to give it room.
Rael nodded. He knew Sandshrew would be an excellent addition to his team. He pulled out a Poké Ball and tossed it into the air.
-Poliwag, I choose you!
Little Poliwag appeared in a flash of light, ready for battle. The Sandshrew didn't wait, and launched a rapid spin attack, rolling toward Poliwag at high speed. But Poliwag was ready.
-Use Bubble! -Rael shouted.
A stream of bubbles shot out at Sandshrew, hitting him directly and slowing his movement. The water-type attack was extremely effective, as Sandshrew was vulnerable to water-type attacks.
Despite Poliwag's advantage, Sandshrew did not give up and attacked again with a Scratch. The move was quick, but Rael knew that the key to victory was persistence.
-Polywag, use Bubble again!
The second attack was enough to weaken the Sandshrew, who staggered and fell to the ground. Rael saw his chance. He pulled a Poké Ball from his belt and threw it at the Pokémon.
The Poké Ball hit Sandshrew softly, enveloping it in a red light, and it fell to the ground. Both trainers stared as the Poké Ball fluttered back and forth, then stopped with a soft "click.
-I did it! -Rael exclaimed as he picked up the Poké Ball with his new Sandshrew.
Eira smiled, impressed.
-Good job. Sandshrew will be a great addition to your team, especially against Electric or Poison Pokémon.
Rael looked at the Poké Ball in his hands and felt a surge of satisfaction. His team was getting stronger. With Sandshrew, Poliwag and Eevee, he felt he was one step closer to becoming the trainer he had always dreamed of becoming.
---
The excitement of capturing Sandshrew lasted for a while as they continued on their way. But as they descended deeper into the cave, the atmosphere grew more eerie. The air was heavier, and Rael began to notice that there were fewer wild Pokémon in this part of the cave.
-"Do you realize that we haven't seen any other trainers since we got here? -Rael asked, breaking the silence.
Eira nodded.
-That is strange. Mount Moon is always full of trainers looking for fossils. But this tunnel seems completely deserted.
Suddenly the sound of conversation reached their ears. They both stopped and tried to identify where the sound was coming from. It was hard to make out the words, but it sounded like several people were talking quietly further down the tunnel.
-Do you think it's other trainers? -Rael asked.
Eira frowned.
-I don't know. We should be careful.
They moved cautiously towards the source of the sound until they finally saw a faint light at the end of the tunnel. Rael turned off his flashlight and they both approached slowly. When they reached the end of the tunnel, they were met with an unexpected sight.
In a large chamber, lit by torches, was a group of people dressed in black with strange symbols on their uniforms. They were circling around a large hole in the ground and seemed to be digging something.
-Who are they? -Rael whispered.
Eira watched with narrowed eyes.
-I have no idea. But those uniforms... I've never seen them before.
Rael looked closer. The people seemed to be working with unusual intensity, as if searching for something important.
-I don't like this at all," Rael said quietly. Whatever it is, they're not just here for the fossils. There's something else.
Eira nodded with a worried expression.
-We have to be careful. We don't know who they are or what they're doing, but this is clearly not normal.
They both crept quietly out of the chamber. Rael sensed that something big was happening, something much more dangerous than he had imagined. And he had a feeling that he and Eira were about to become involved in something much darker.
