Chapter Thirty

Madeline’s POV

“Why that’s amazing, Madeline! Now you can drive to your mother’s place and mine all on your own! I’m proud of you!” He winces.

“Yup, I’ll have to relearn how to park, refill, etc. but I’m really excited!”

I ramble on and on until our food arrives. The atmosphere has shifted drastically, I feel it but can’t put a finger on why. That is, until I look up and see Andrew pick at his food, uninterested. He mentioned how much he adored the food and this place, what happened?

Was it me? Am I talking too much, was I too enthusiastic when I brought this conversation up? …Does he not like hearing me speak?

Come to think of it, he only spares longing glances when my mouth is shut, when he doesn’t realize I feel his eyes glaze over my features.

Does he only like the idea of who I once was?

And so, I stop talking and start eating.
