Chapter 14 - Quetzal vs Acalan 1
Nearly two weeks had passed since my mother challenged Acalan. Since becoming a vampire, she was very confident about her success. My mother convinced the tribe members to hold the battle at night. As it wasn't an unreasonable request, they agreed. Soon, I arrived at the battlefield. My mother had already gone out to prepare for the fight. The battle was taking place in a well-lit area with torchlight. I soon encountered Atzi, my half-sister who was on her way. Since my father's death, she had worked hard to become a priestess, as it was his wish. "Will your mother be alright?" she asked, concerned. "Don't worry, she'll be fine."
Third-person POV:
Key tribe members were seated up front, adorned in elaborate clothing and large jewels. Clothing in the Aztec empire symbolized status. Guards surrounded them. All other tribe members were scattered around the venue, celebrating, dancing, and giving thanks to the gods. Soon, Acalan entered the arena. He was a rugged man, robust in build with unkempt beard. He bore a tattoo of the feathered serpent on his hand and various Nahuatl words across his body. He wore a loincloth and a cloak wrapped around him. He carried a spear. The crowd cheered as he entered the arena. He promptly sacrificed to Quetzalcoatl and prayed for victory.
Next, Quetzal entered the arena. She wore a long skirt and blouse. She also had a tattoo of a symbol on her hand - Nahuatl for jaguar. She sported a moon tattoo on her chest area, partially covered by her blouse. Her silver hair was braided to avoid discomfort. She carried no weapon, only an iron gauntlet. Aztec women mainly tended to household affairs, with some becoming priestesses, so a female warrior was rare. Thus, many women admired Quetzal for achieving what they could only dream of. Many men admired her for her beauty. "Do you remember the conditions, Quetzal?" Acalan asked with a malicious smile. "Don't worry Acalan, I remember. Let's not waste time talking and get on with the fight," Quetzal replied, annoyed. "Oh, but why only a gauntlet for a weapon? Are you sure you want to fight me with just that?" Acalan chuckled, teasingly. "I don't need anything else. Does it matter how I defeat you? Whether it's with a sword, spear, macuahuitl. It's all the same."
"Oh, you're quite bold. I think I'm going to enjoy this," Acalan said, licking his lips. Enraged by his antics, Quetzal took the initiative to attack. She lost the battle of provocation, losing her cool and rushing to attack. "I'll oblige you by fighting unarmed," Acalan announced as he inserted the spear into the ground and raised his guard to defend.
But Quetzal quickly closed the distance and threw a punch. Despite Acalan not expecting the speed, he reacted swiftly and dodged in time. Simultaneously, he delivered a punch to Quetzal's stomach.
As the punch was very fast and strong, she had difficulty pulling her arm back, but quickly spun her hips and dodged the attack.
Acalan seized this opportunity and launched a barrage of punches. Quetzal struggled initially but quickly adapted to his punches and responded accordingly.
The spectators were impressed by this, fully immersed in the battle. To them, Acalan had the advantage. But Huitzilin knew this wasn't true.
Acalan was clearly struggling against Quetzal's superior strength and could barely keep up with her experience and superior combat sense.
'Why is she so strong? What kind of sorcery is this? It's unbelievable,' during his moment of lapse, Quetzal immediately found an opening in his guard when she kicked his waist.
Acalan was thrown across the arena as he coughed up blood. After some struggle, he got up with a furious expression on his face.
"How the hell did you become so strong? What did you do? Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore, since I'm tired of playing," Acalan shouted as he quickly grabbed his spear.
His posture changed instantly, as he was like an eagle intensely watching its prey, so that he could grab it even if it moved.
Quetzal became tense and uneasy upon seeing Acalan. He was the most powerful enemy she had faced after childbirth. But she soon remembered her powers and lowered her guard a bit.
Acalan unexpectedly threw the spear aiming directly at Quetzal's abdomen. Quetzal didn't expect this, as the spear was too close to pierce her.
But, unbeknownst to anyone, Quetzal immediately manipulated her abdomen and made it shrink. Then the spear just grazed her skin, taking a piece of her flesh with it. Blood flowed from the wound and all over her clothes.
To others, it looked like Quetzal had twisted her waist abnormally to avoid the spear from directly piercing her body. But Acalan quickly noticed her abnormality.
'As I thought, she's not normal. But that doesn't matter now. When I defeat her, I'll definitely ask her what magic she did,' Acalan thought as he quickly retrieved the two daggers he had hidden.
'That old fox is good. I don't have the technique and combat sense to defeat him. But luckily, I have my vampire powers. But becoming a vampire doesn't mean instantly becoming powerful enough that no one can defeat you.'
Quetzal soon focused and stopped underestimating Acalan. She wanted to see how far she could go without her vampire powers.
Acalan quickly attacked her with his twin daggers. One aimed at her neck and the other at her abdomen. The timing of both hands was the same and almost perfect.
It was obvious to anyone that he was a very skilled warrior and an adept combat genius. He was also the teacher of the late tribe leader Tupoc.
Seeing Acalan's twin dagger heading towards her, she quickly jumped back and retreated without hesitation. She didn't attack impulsively and chose to retreat. Watching Quetzal retreat, Acalan quickly threw one of his daggers at Quetzal without hesitation. The crowd was amazed, as Acalan seemed to have a fetish for throwing his weapons. "The same trick doesn't work twice, old man," Quetzal taunted as she punched the dagger and it strayed off course. Acalan smiled upon hearing this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- First time writing a fight sequence. What do you think?
