Chapter 24

Gabriel hurried to cover him with a blanket. He couldn’t risk Chris waking to find him staring at his naked body like some kind of pervert. Had Chris been his for real, he’d have spent the entire night simply looking at him, but he wasn’t, could never be.

Gabriel bit his lip until it hurt.

What if he could stay?

The butterflies threatened to win the war in his chest but he couldn’t let them. There was nothing worse than ending up with withering butterflies later only because he’d given them too much space to begin with. Of course, he couldn’t stay, and even if he did, Chris probably wouldn’t want him around.

Toffee came purring, and he hugged her to his chest. Her warm little body made some of his tense muscles loosen up.

“What are you doing?” He startled at Chris’s sleep-rough voice.

“Nothing. Nothing. I just…”

“Did I snore?” Chris looked down at the blanket and frowned.

“No.”

“Then why did you get up?”
