Chapter four

Lex

I only want what's best for my son.

"Sir, she has stuck with her side of the deal but Kaylie did not budge at all. Perhaps he just sees him as her friend." My assistant informs me through the phone. "You know, I can't help but think you're trying to help that girl out of her job." How hard could it be to make one party jealous so both parties could realize their feelings for each other? "No, ofcourse not, sir. Although it would save you some money and time if you knew no progress is happening." I sigh and take a deep breath in. "Perhaps I need to set them both on a date. Alright. Thank you for informing me." I then drop the call.

A week ago, I noticed that Axell was friends with this girl from my company. Axell doesn't usually socialize with a lot of people especially with a commoner. So I was surprised to see him enjoying a conversation with her without the look of annoyance being clearly expressed on his face. I asked my assistant to find out who she was. I called this girl in my office and paid her to make Kaylie jealous. Girls just need a little push to realize their feelings.

She accepted the task. I specifically chose her because she's the only female friend Axell ever had in his life aside from Kaylie. He's been friends with Kaylie for two years now but neither of them want to admit their feelings for each other.

I look out the window and see my son's car enter the building.

He must be taking her back to work. But why not Kaylie? If she and my son got together then my empire would be massive. I would be part of the shareholders in her company. But so far none of these people made any progress! It's impossible that Kaylie couldn't have any feelings for my son. He's rich and competent. What more could girls these days want!?

I hear two soft knocks coming from the door.

It must be them.

"It's open." Axell entered my office. Guess it's just him. "Hey, dad. Maisie is already working in her cubicle." He smiles at me. "What brings you here?" I ask while motioning him to sit down. "I just wanted to say thank you for allowing her to be with me during the shoot. Kaylie enjoyed her company as well." This perked my curiosity. "Kaylie wasn't jealous or anything like such?" He looked confused for a moment. "No? Jealous of what?" It's a good thing he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. "An uninvited guest came along. That sounds rather disrespectful." I explain and he scoffs. "Maisie did not come uninvited. Kaylie and I asked if her if she had any free time to come to our shoot." Ahh so Kaylie seems fine with the girl. "I didn't know Kaylie knew her." I just remembered something. "By the way, I'm hosting a banquet this Friday evening. Take Kaylie as your plus one." That should do it. "Why not Maisie?" He raises one of his brows at me. "She's-- how do I say this-- not rich like you or me." He looks as if I've just insulted him. "Typical rich people." He stands up. "I'll take Kaylie to the banquet on one condition." Intrigued by this condition, I grant him one. "I'll be taking Maisie as my plus one to any more banquets you host."

"Why do I have a feeling that you like this Maisie?" If he does then I have to fire her from my company. "Why do I have a feeling you're trying to set me up with Kaylie?" He thinks he's so smart. "Don't dodge the question, Axell." He glares at me like how dare he. I'm his father. "I've been letting you dodge the same question over and over but this time I want answers." He stands up and crosses his arms.

Ha! What's that gonna make me do? Feel bad?

"Kaylie is a much preferable partner. She suits you better than the rest." I explain to him calmly while he looks offended. "I don't need you to decide what's best for me." I rub my temples. This child is giving me a headache. "Just attend the banquet with Kaylie. You can't ever go with Maisie or I'll fire her, got that?"

I successfully drove him to a dead end.

He sighs. "Yes, father." Then walks out the door.
