Naeva in Uncanny L

"Naeva! Hurry the fuck up. I'm hungry!" Cried Nyx from the bottom of the stairs on the ground floor, stomping her boot clad foot to buttress her point.

From the kitchen, Mrs. Umbrielle took off her apron and stuck her head out of the door "Language!" she yelled at her daughter

"He has been up there since forever, Mother," Nyx complained, walking back to the set dining table. The aroma of the meal made her stomach grumble and she ran her hand through her brown hair in frustration. "It's barely fair that we have to wait for him. He's always late"

At the head of the dining table, Mr. Umbrielle turned the newspaper to the next page, his reading glasses sitting perfectly on his nose. "Give him a few more minutes. Besides, Saden isn't down yet too" he said

"Morning Father" Saden's voice could be heard as soon as their father finished talking.

Nyx turned to watch him walk towards the table. "Well, he's here now," she grumbled under her breath.

Upstairs, Naeva placed his keys, and lip balm into his bag before adjusting his light blonde bangs again which almost completely covered his eyes, and made sure his eyeliners were still perfect.

He stood up and backed away from the dressing mirror, doing a small spin.

"So, how'd I look?" He asked, straightening his skirt again.

From the phone by the dressing mirror, Lien gave him a one-over, nodding in satisfaction with a hum as always. "Like you're about to steal and break hearts" Lien replied with a grin. "You packed everything you'll need right?"

Naeva nods, a pout forming on his lips "I still can't believe you and Neville ditched. We were supposed to hang out at the beach before I leave"

Lien sighed and began playing with her fingers "I know, I know. I want to go with you as well but something came up at my grandma's place and I have to go there with my mom instead" she explained

Naeva's eyes twisted; he didn't say anything about it. Just then, he heard Nyx yell for him. Rolling his blueish-green eyes, Naeva walked back to his dresser and picked up his phone.

"Was that your sister?" Lien asked with a laugh in her voice. "She's hella loud"

"Tell me about it. I'd tell her to shut it but Father won't let me hear the end of it if I talk back to my older sister" Naeva took a final look at himself in the mirror "Gotta go. See ya and tell Nev I will never forgive him!"

Lien laughed "Will do. Don't break too many hearts, Naeva. Have fun" she waved at him

Naeva smiles, waving back before disconnecting the call. He turned off the phone and slipped it into his bag then picked up the tablet, looking around his room to make sure he didn't forget anything before walking out of the room.

"Damn, finally!" Nyx all but yelled when she heard Naeva come down the stairs. "Could you not take hours to dress up?"

Naeva clicked his tongue but didn't reply. He and his sister have not been on good terms for a long time now and he was used to her unintelligent remarks. Also, his father was at the table as well. He really wouldn't hear the end of it if he spoke back at her.

It was better to ignore Nyx in their parent's presence.

Turning his attention to his father and older brother, Naeva smiled and greeted "Good morning. Sorry I took so long; Lien was on the phone"

His father grunts a reply, too focused on the papers, while his brother grins at him.

Saden moved to ruffle Naeva's hair but the younger, already grown used to the elder's tactics, quickly ducked away, escaping Saden in a fit of giggles.

"Looking pretty, aren't we?" Mrs. Umbrielle's voice announced her presence as she arrived at the dining table.

"Morning, Mom" Naeva grinned at his mom. He was about to say more but was abruptly interrupted by Nyx

"Can we please just eat? It's already 11 and I haven't had breakfast!"

Mr. Umbrielle folded up his newspaper and kept it away. "Let's bless the food. Saden" he said to his older son.

Saden nodded and folded his hand in front of him, the rest copying the action and they closed their eyes as he blessed the meal.

"Bless us, our food and drinks. Since you redeemed us so dearly and delivered us from evil, as you gave us a reason to live so may you grant us a fulfilling end"

Naeva answered the short prayer halfheartedly. He had never known who or what they were praying to and knew better than to ask after many failed attempts. Naeva picked up his fork and knife, the silver wares causing a tingle against his palm which he ignored. He cut a piece of hotdog and chewed it.

"Has everyone packed their things?" Mrs. Umbrielle after a moment of silence.

The kids nodded, her husband replying with a simple yes.

"Okay," Mrs. Umbrielle chirped. "We leave immediately after breakfast"

The silver camper van was packed at the front of the two-story building and the Umbrielle's were busy putting their boxes in.

Naeva kicked back and forth on his heels until Saden was done helping him put his briefcase in.

"There," Saden said with a smirk "All done, princess"

Naeva rolled his eyes and made a show of a cat walk to the car, with all the grace and elegance of a princess much to the elder's amusement.

They were on the road soon after, case 143 playing on the speakers, managing to disturb Naeva even as he watched the newest GMM TV series on his iPad.

With a groan, Naeva took off his headphones and glared at Nyx who was nodding along to the music.

"We all love Straykids, Nyx but do you need to burst open our eardrums because of them?" He yelled, hoping his voice was not drowned by the music.

Nyx didn't do anything to show she had heard him, nor did she turn down the volume of the song.

Naeva clinched his teeth, turning to Saden for help but the older boy was already asleep, snoring lightly. Naeva glared again, wondering how anyone could sleep through such noise, no matter how good the song was.

He looked forward, towards his parents at the driver and passenger seats. They both seem very relaxed and Naeva didn't want to bother them as well.

With a sigh, Naeva changed his earphones to noise cancellers, drew an eye mask over his eyes, folded his hands against his chest, and sank into his chair.

It was going to be an awesome trip and he wasn't going to let anything get in the way.

Not even Nyx.

It wasn't until late noon that the camper came to a stop at a reserved part of the beach.

From what Naeva knew, there would be a beach party tonight. The beach was owned by a politician and only those in high social class could be allowed in.

Thankfully, somehow, Naeva's family fit into such a category and even received an invitation to the party from the host himself.

Naeva didn't know yet what kind of party it was but he would find out tonight.

Climbing out of the van, Naeva took a deep breath of the salty beach air. He exhaled in satisfaction and walked to the driver's seat where his dad sat.

"What's up, buddy?" Mr. Umbrielle asked climbing out of the van as well.

"Can I go look around? I'll be back before it's time for the party" Naeva answered "I want to click a few pictures for Lien before that"

Mr. Umbrielle nods, patting his youngest child on the head with a smile "Just come back on time and always answer your phone" he reiterates

Naeva grins and nods before walking away. He took out his phone from his bag, ready to take pictures he'd send to Neville and Lien later. Naeva hummed the family tune of Butter as he walked closer to the water, warm sand sipping into his shoes.

There were very few people on the beach which made sense since it was a private beach. The sun was warm and tiny moisture carried by the wind landed on his skin.

Naeva clicked pictures of the waves as they crashed at the shore and birds like black spots in the sky.

A bird flew down, flying above the water for a few seconds before dipping its legs in and floating on the surface.

Naeva couldn't clearly see what kind of bird it was. He moved forward to get a clearer picture when suddenly, large arms wrapped around his waist and hoisted him off his feet.

Naeva squeaked in surprise, almost dropping his phone. Naeva grabbed the arm which held him with his free hand.

"What the fuck, let go!" Naeva yelled, hitting the large hand. It seemed his hits weren't painful as the person didn't even bulge.

"That hurts" the person said, moving back three steps and letting Naeva stand on his own again.

Naeva jumped back immediately his feet touched the ground and turned back to see the one who had carried him.

He glared at the male, pointing an accusing finger at him, his voice high in angry and slight panic "Who are you? What was that for?" He asked

The male raised both hands to show he wasn't a threat. His bright blue eyes looked dull with boredom, lips held in a tight line, face down with tiredness and shoulders sloughed.

"You were about to step in the water" The male eyes fall to Naeva's shoes "I didn't think those would survive"

Naeva blinked and looked down at his shoes then to the water and back to the male.

"Oh," he said almost questioningly. "Thanks, I guess"

The male nodded and began walking away.

Naeva frowns, watching the male's back. A disturbing feeling set in; a thought lingered in his mind.

He looked in the opposite direction and back at the male. Naeva's eyes twisted, nose burned, his signs of perceived abnormality and lies.

"Wait" Naeva heard himself say before he realized it.

Ahead of him, the male stopped and slowly turned back to look at Naeva, expression not changing. The wind played with his long brown hair, blowing it into his face but the male didn't seem bothered.

"What's your name?" Naeva found himself asking without thinking. Perhaps it was his curiosity getting the best of him but something about the male bothered Naeva, eating at him to find out just who the male was.

The male was quiet for a while before he nodded once, more to himself and not Naeva, and answered

"L. My name is L" he replied and turned to walk away again and this time, Naeva didn't stop him.

"L" Naeva repeated the name to himself.

Was it a nickname or an actual name? Even after knowing L's name, the feeling inside him still did not reduce. Instead, it grew, an unfamiliar feeling of interest towards the male.

Naeva looked at the ground, his eyes trailing the line L had walked in up to the spot he had stood next to Naeva a few seconds before.

His eyes widened, his mouth dropping open as realization drew on his face.

"What the fuck?" Naeva breathed out each word, stressing them as he stared down at the spot where L once stood.
