Shawn POV:
That night, I went back to working on convinced that I would only have Virginia still on my side in the morning with everyone else with transfer papers. Honestly, they would miss out on having their names down in history, that was fine by me. Even if they dropped out, I had gifted them with enhanced bioelectric activity. It was the least I could do for those who applied.
Imagine my surprise when it came close to dawn, and everyone was there, bright and earlier. Not a single paper of a transfer. Not going to lie, it gave a boost to my pride.
"Thanks for everyone showing up on time. I know it's a lot to ask of someone to do what I have planned, but I can promise you, by giving me a chance, I'll give you all the tools to survive out there. Which brings me to my next point. Last night, I said that you all were running to get to help faster, but that wasn't the only truth.
You run, to protect the most valuable asset on the battlefield. Yourself. A medic is the most important person on the field. Sure, the commander gives the orders, but there are many others who are quite capable of doing that. A medic? That's not replicable. Now, run for your own sakes." I finish telling them, and they take off running.
I make sure that they run for at least six hours. For a normal person, that seems like it's too much, but they didn't realize that as they got exhausted, I would boost their bioelectric, improving their stamina. So anytime they would collapse, I would head over to them and place my hand on them to keep them up. Of course, I didn't think this would go unnoticed.
After running, they would take their break. As it was the second day, their relentless running hadn't gone unnoticed by the soldiers in HQ. But my team members didn't pay heed to their pity, they were more focused on preparing for the upcoming brain-teasers. While doing so, they found that they were slightly more focused than yesterday and remembering the sequence of numbers wasn't as hard.
It wasn't until our third part of the day in the debriefing that they started to address it. While showing them common wounds they would encounter on the battlefield and the procedures for them, Spencer raised his hand. Surprising as I think this would be the first time I would hear him initiate a conversation.
"You know, I've never run consistently like how we are now before. I don't think it's normal for a person to be able to run for six hours. How are we doing that?" He asks and everyone looks at me when they realize he's right. The question should feel me with the dread as if I got caught, but instead, I smile as I did nothing wrong.
This is a war for the fate of humanity, holding back skills like mine for selfish reasons could lead to our downfall. Anyone who joined my team, after I've evaluated their motive of course, was going to get their bioelectric activity awakened, Adawe be damned.
I pause as I get super serious. "Listen and listen well. What I'm about to tell you, isn't classified information yet, but should we survive the war, it will be. So, I don't have to tell you want knowing this information entails, do I?"
They nod their head in agreement, mostly because they were eager to hear some top secret information, I guess. But, it wouldn't matter telling them as they would learn of this if we won the war anyway. Plus, if they went into battle with me, they were going to see some shit.
"In this world, there are certain people who have a set of abilities that you wouldn't find on ordinary humans. These abilities make them better than the average human, to certain extents, superhuman even."
Marco interrupts as usual, "Let me guess, you're one of those people?" I smile at him, not bothering to answer that question.
Virginia, who looks mystified, "What can you do?"
"I've already shown you guys a bit." I admit to them, debating whether I should get into the full scope of what I can do or not.
"You mean, you have super speed? That would explain a lot." Steven says. He was the one person who was fastest out of everyone here, who challenged me in the beginning.
"Yeah, wanna see me run from here to the cafeteria?" I pause as they nod their nods. As they stand to watch me run, I stop them. "Wanna see me do it again?"
They pause, and Leslie says, "Surely you're joking."
I smile at the joke I just made, "Yeah, super speed is just a byproduct of my true power. I can control electricity." To prove it, I let a bolt of electricity jump from one finger to the next. They watch amazed, and I feel like I'm showing kids a simply magic trick.
Leslie, the smartest one, puts two and two together. "Wait, so did you do something to us?"
They all turn to me, and I beam down at them from the bridge of my nose. "Of course I did. I can't have my team being measly humans, now can I."
Marco jumps back in shock, "Without our permission! You're basically experimenting on us."
I look at him unimpressed. He's going to run extra laps tomorrow. "Do you want me to take it back?" I ask him. He quiets down, realizing what that would mean.
Virginia jumps up and down excited, "What can we do? What can we do?"
"Well, I'm glad you asked. Come, let's find out."
