Chapter 82

“Looks like you were right, Andrews,” Ruth spoke in a low voice.

“Unfortunately,” Cam replied.

“How’d you know? Why were you so sure?” Annie glared at her from beyond Ruth.

“I got a friend on the outside.”

Annie snorted.

“Never mind. She was right,” Ruth frowned. “What we gotta do now is find out what’s going wrong.”

“You talked with her this morning. What’d she say?” Tuck asked.

“Said we were crazy. Said she didn’t know anything about a Federal shake-down….”

As they filed back into the building, officers they didn’t know were everywhere. Female state police officers and others, both male and female, in dark suits, who could only be federal agents, lined the halls.

“I told you not to trust her,” Annie interrupted.

“Forget it. Now we got bigger problems.” She turned to Cam. “Andrews, what else do you know about this?”

Cam looked around. Every eye in the hallway was on her. “Nothing. Just that there was going to be a shake-down this week.”
