“Has your view of me changed?” Alice asked without looking at him.
“… Yes.”
A dark shadow came over her face as she directed her gaze to her lap.
“Do you despise me?” She said with self-hate in her voice.
Elijah crouched down to her knees where their eyes met.
“I found out what a caring person you are. You truly loved your sister and if you didn’t, you wouldn’t be sitting in her chair.”
He grabbed both of her hands, just like when she grabbed his on the first day they met.
She felt his hands were warm and comforting.
“No matter what you do, I could never hate you,” Elijah said seriously.
With the current lighting, the lighter pigments in Elijah’s eyes lit up as blue. Alice blushed at those intense eyes staring back at her.
“Really?” Alice asked.
“One hundred percent,” he replied.
“…”
Elijah stood back up, went behind her, and held onto the handles on her wheelchair.
“Shall we?”
“Yes.”
He pushed her to the basement door and opened it.
