Chapter 7: Escape from Doflamingo

Doflamingo decided to use his ultimate attack to create a giant birdcage, trapping everyone who was on Minion Island. The birdcage was so massive that it was able to cover the whole Island.

Vergo woke up after being knocked out by Lami and soon noticed that there was a birdcage covering the Island meaning Doflamingo has arrived. He quickly decided to call Doflamingo and inform him about the betrayal of Corazon.

" I see so they were able to defeat you and run away," said Doflamingo over the phone. " It seems that Corazon also stole the Ope Ope no Mi from these pirates, I won't let them get away," he added.

" I can see that you have arrived on the Island, that massive birdcage is hard to miss but why does it look different from before?" asked Vergo.

" It's the upgraded version from all those training techniques I got from Lami but to think I would use it against her too," replied Doflamingo.

All the members of the Don Quixote were shocked to find out that Doflamingo has also been training using Lami's techniques. They were impressed by the power of the upgraded birdcage however one of them was secretly worried.

' I hope Lami-chan and Law are okay I wish I had a way to save them,' thought one of the members but dared not to voice their concerns.

At that same time, Lami and Law lay on the ground covered with the injuries they suffered from their battle with Vergo they were currently hiding at an abandoned house trying to come up with a plan to escape the Island. Corazon looked at the giant birdcage that prevented them from their escape and worry filled his heart.

" What in the hell is that?" Law asked as he saw a giant birdcage covering the Island. " It's one of Doffy's ultimates attack, I had never seen it in person but I can say that we are completely trapped ," replied Corazon.

" He coated his attack with the fire Qi element, perhaps I shouldn't have taught him to combine Haki with his Qi energy," muttered Lami regretfully.

" Nani?! you taught Doflamingo your cultivation techniques?" Law asked in disbelief. " Obviously no, I only taught him how to coat his Qi energy to his attacks and may have given him some training techniques to improve his physical strength," responded Lami defensively.

" It seems you created a monster regardless of that, it looks like we need to come up with a plan to escape," said Corazon as he looked at the giant birdcage.

" So any ideas?" asked Lami, looking back at Law and Corazon. " I may have one that may work but you two need to trust me," responded Coran after a moment of silence.

" We trust you enough Cora-san so what is it?" Law asked eagerly. " I will hide you two in a treasure box then use my calm calm fruit to mask your presence so that later you can escape later without getting noticed," explained Corazon confidently.

" Then what about you Cora-san?" Law asked with concern and worry. " Doffy's main objectives is the Ope Ope no Mi and you two siblings," said Corazon. " I may have betrayed him and sold him to the Navy but I'm his blood brother, he would never have the guts to kill me," added Corazon.

However, Lami knew that was a lie due to her ability to sense emotions. She could sense the fear and uncertainty in his heart but she chose to stay silent, not wanting to cause him more stress than he was already going through.

' If that is your Decision Rosinante I guess I owe you my life,' thought Lami as she watched Corazon prepare the treasure box for their escape.

The group went along with Corazon's plan, knowing that it was their last option for survival. Corazon hid the siblings inside the treasure box and masked their presence with his fruit powers.

Doflamingo's men were currently searching for the location of Corazon and the siblings but came up empty-handed until Corazon was spotted running around the Island. Corazon was captured and beaten brutally almost leading to his death but his will to protect the siblings kept him alive.

Lami who was inside the treasure box could sense everything that was going on outside and could feel the pain and suffering endured by Corazon.

Doflamingo arrived where Corazon was captured and demanded the location of the Ope Ope no Mi and the siblings. " Law ate the fruit and they managed to escape from this Island I bet they found refuge on a lookout Navy ship," Corazon lied to save Lami and Law.

Doflamingo felt like his head will explored from anger and frustration. " Young Master-sama!!" shouted Buffalo as he interrupted his thoughts. " I heard on the radio that the Navy took in two kids who they found on the Island," added Baby 5. ' Lami-chan, Law this is my way of repaying you for helping me past my trauma,' thought Baby 5 as she lied to Doflamingo to help keep Lami and law safe.

" You could have told me earlier!!," roared Doflamingo.

[ Flashback to when Lami and Law had recently joined the Don Quixote Family and Baby 5 was still suffering from her childhood trauma]

" Hey Lami-chan, Law is there anything you need?" asked Baby 5 wanting to be useful and feel needed by someone. " I have been meaning to ask you Baby 5, why do you always want to be used by others it's not a good site to see," said Lami with a concerned tone.

" Used?" questioned Baby 5 confused by Lami's words. Lami proceeded to explain to Baby 5 how she is easily used by everyone around her without her seeing that people only value her for what she can do for them, not for who she is as a person in the short term a tool or a pawn.

" Is that really how everyone really sees me?" asked Baby 5 trying to digest Lami's words.

The conversation with Lami was a turning point for Baby 5, as she realized the truth about how others saw her and started changing her mindset about herself.

As more time passed Lami, Law and Baby 5 became close friends, as Lami helped Baby 5 grow as a person, look at the world from a positive angle and appreciate herself more as a person.

The development of their friendship proved crucial in the events that followed, as Baby 5's loyalty to her newfound friends trumped her allegiance to the Don Quixote Family. Lami even went to promise Baby 5 that the day she leaves the Don Quixote Family, they will all leave together to start a new life free from Doflamingo's clutches.

[ End of Flashback]

' I may not escape Doflamingo today but I'm willing to help you two escape,' resolved Baby 5 in her mind as she lied to Doflamingo about the Navy taking in Law and Lami. In truth the Navy did take in one kid from the Island but no two.

As soon as Corazon heard that the Navy had taken two kids from the Island he knew something was off. ' What a coincidence! it seems fate also wants to save these siblings,' thought Corazon as he realized that Law and Lami may have a chance to escape Doflamingo.

" Prepare to sail if what she says is true then we have to sink that ship and retrieve Law and Lami," ordered Doflamingo.

" Stop! What do you want with Lami and Law?" shouted Corazon as he pointed his gun toward Doflamingo. Doflamingo smirked," They are valuable assets to me, especially Law since he has eaten the Ope Ope no Mi".

" He has to be educated at using the fruit and he must die for me while," added Doflamingowith a grin on his face. Corazon's heart sank at he knew what Doflamingo's intentions were for Law and the Ope Ope no Mi.

"You've done a lot of things! Why do you wanna get in my way?! Why must I kill another member of my biological family?! Even if you aim your gun at me you will never shoot! you are just like your father," spat Doflamingo as he took out his gun ready to shoot Corazon.

Corazon slowly stood up," There is nothing you need from those kids they are now free," he calmly said as he pointed his gun toward Doflamingo * bang, bang* the sound of gunshots echoed as Corazon fell into the ground with bullet holes on his chest.

A few moments later Law and Lami exited the treasure box and started moving quietly away from the Don Quixote family. Law couldn't control his emotions as he started crying for Corazon who sacrificed his life to save them.

With that Law and Lami got away from Doflamingo's clutches and got a chance at a new life thanks to Corazon's courage and sacrifice.
