Chapter fourteen

Later in the day, Jayden was in his office lost in thought.

"How was this even possible? For the first time in five years I could sleep peacefully without taking sleeping pills, but how?". he was so lost in thought that he couldn't notice his phone was ringing.

Maya came out of her room and left for the kitchen to see the maids busy.

" Do you guys need help?". she asked from the doorstep and turned to her quickly and bowed in respect. "please don't bow to me, am not God". she said.

" We are sorry, Ms. Maya, is just our duty to do so". the head maid said.

"But I don't want that, it makes me feel less of a human being, I can see clearly, that you all here are a little older than I am, so, I prefer being addressed normally". she said smiling and they smiled back at her." So, can we start all over again and introduced ourselves properly?". she asked and they nodded.

"I will go first". The head maid said." my name is Linda". she said.

"Such a wonderful name". Maya said.

" I am Lucy," another maid said.

"Wow, you have the same name as my aunt, I love it".

" And I am Amma".

"Nice"

"You already know my name". Andrea said.

" Is so nice to meet you, I am Maya".

"We are glad to meet you too". they said smiling.

" We will introduce you to the rest maids later on," Linda said.

"That will be great". she said and inhaled the aroma of the food." Hmm, this smells nice, What can I help you girls with?". she asked.

"You don't have to Ms.Maya, we can do it". Amma said.

" But I insist ". she said and moved closer to them." please, let me help".

"Ok, if you insist". Linda said. "You can help with the cutting of the layer ".

" Sure" " She moved to the cabinet and started chopping the leaves while the rest continued with their work." So, Ms. Linda, I noticed you are the head maid, so how are things with the so-called boss?". she asked.

"Not bad". she replied.

" Not bad? How can you say that, I noticed how he is treating you guys which is not fair".Maya said.

"Well, Mr. Jayden is not as bad as you think, he only had a bad temper and he likes it when you obey his instructions and don't compete with him". Andrea said.

" Exactly".Lucy said.

"Really? You girls think that of him? I believe he is a beast in a human form and I hate it when he bosses people around like trash". Maya said.

" You will get to know the other side of him soon, he is not who you think he is ". Linda said.

" Hold on, I didn't mean to be rude, did he threaten you all to speak good of him?". she questioned and they laughed.

"Of course not, Ms. Maya, we are saying the truth". Andrea said." Although he was never worse like this before". she added.

"How do you mean?". Maya asked and they sighed sadly." Is there something wrong? Is there something I should know?" she asked curiously.

"Um, yeah, although we promise not to let it out again, you are a nice lady and of course the lady of the house". Linda said.

" Lady of the house?" she giggles" Please don't address me like that again, this is not my house and I am not staying here forever, I am only here because of my baby". she said and they stared confusedly at her.

"Baby? Is there a baby in this house? How come we haven't seen the baby around?". Linda asked confusedly and the rest wondered too. Maya stares at them and laughs.

" You all are so funny, I am not talking about the baby that has been born yet, I mean I am pregnant". she said and they gasped in surprise and quickly Andrea rushed to her and took the knife from her."What is wrong?". she wondered and Lucy brought a chair for her and made her seat on it."What are you guys doing?".

"Please Ms.Maya, don't make us take this risk again, we can be beheaded for this". Linda said

" How do you mean? I only said I am pregnant and no course for alarm". she said.

"We know, we shouldn't allow you to touch anything from now on, it is our responsibility". Linda said.

" But--"she got interrupted.

"Please Ms.Maya, try to understand us, Mr.Jayden won't be happy with us if he finds out". Lucy said and Mays sighed.

" Please". they begged.

"Ok, fine". she said and they jumped up excitedly.

" We are so happy for you, finally, the Williams family will be expecting a grandchild after all these years of waiting". Linda said happily." Now you see I didn't lie when I said you are the lady of the house". She added.

"Well I am not, if only you guys knew how it comes about, anyway That's a story for another day, so tell me what you mean, Mr. Jayden wasn't like this before". she said.

"Yeah, Mr. Jayden was a nice and friendly man that people admired him a lot, he was so much in love with his childhood friend named Diana, they grew up together and decided to take their friendship to the next level, their love was going smoothly that people wished to be like them, but something happened at the end of their relationship that made him hate himself and everyone around him". Linda explain.

" What happened?".Maya asked.

"I didn't get the chance to ask my grandmother about it before she died". she said.

" Your grandmother once worked here?". Maya asked.

"Yes, she watched and took care of Mr. Jayden as her own son before she died". she said.

" Oh, how thoughtful".

"And Mr. Jayden hardly sleeps at night because of it, he uses sleeping pills and almost dies because of it". Amma said.

" Oh, that must have hurt him so much". Maya said.

"I guess so, we pray he recovers from it soon, I have never seen him bring in any woman to this house ". Lucy said.

" That was because he hated the sight of ladies coming close to him". Linda said.

"But he doesn't feel that way with Ms.Maya here". Andrea said.

"Really? He is only talking to me because of this baby and nothing more, the fact still remains that I don't like him ". Maya said and they smiled at her.

Later in the evening, Jayden arrived home very late because of business meetings and a lot of work in his office, he walked to his room, took off his clothes, and moved to the bathroom to freshen up, a few minutes later, he came out with his towel tied around his waist, he moves to his closet and picks up his nightwear to put on, after a while, he lay on the bed and tried to sleep. for about an hour, he kept tossing around on the bed and then he sat upright looking confused on why he can't sleep like he did last night.

"Why can't I fall asleep like I did yesterday, What's happening?". he sighed tiredly and stepped out of his room, and walked to Maya's room, he saw her sleeping calmly on the bed like a baby, he moved and sat next to her staring at her." where you the reason I could sleep peacefully last night?" he questioned himself and he decided to sleep next to her. he kept staring at her and then Maya rolled over to his body resting her hand around him, Jayden gulped nervously as he felt her breath beneath his face, he was trying to control himself, not too long after, he drift to sleep.

The next morning, he woke up to see himself cuddling Maya in his arms and he noticed he slept so peacefully. He slowly removed his arms from her body so as not to wake her up, he stood up and wriggled out of the room to his room quickly without being seen by anyone.

Days passed, and he started sneaking into Maya's room at night to get some peaceful sleep since he noticed he could only sleep well when he slept next to her and cuddled her in his arms, Maya seemed not to notice, because she only thought it was a dream that she is being cuddled by someone when she is asleep and felt safe and secure in that arms and never want to let go.
