Now, about those two rings inside the envelope. They’re my and James’s birth mother’s wedding bands.
Zeke stopped reading for a brief moment. He was shocked. He certainly didn’t expect that. He stared at the rings for several seconds before he continued reading.
The wedding bands aren’t expensive, but I want you to have them. Think of them as a parting gift from me to you. I also can’t stop thinking of you as James instead of Zeke, and I like to think the wedding bands will be passed down to my firstborn son through you. Do what you will with them. You can even melt them and turn them into one ring. Whatever you decide, I hope you’ll take good care of them.
I’ll stop right here. I’m getting rather exhausted. I’m no longer young, and my illness isn’t helping any. Thank you again, Zeke, for everything. Please don’t be sad about my passing. I’ll finally be reunited with my first wife and James. I love and miss them both so much.
