Chapter 5

The next day, 11:00am, Milestone general hospital.

Im sitting adjacent to Sia's bed, pondering on what to do next, this was no magical attack, I smell it all over her; and they'll pay heftily for doing this to Sia , that I promise.

Although it's been almost 9 hours, Sia hasn't moved even a muscle to show that she isn't dead yet; as long as she's still breathing then I know there's hope.

Doctor Whitson's words still rings loudly in my head.

"It's a terrible case of suffocation, when we scanned her lungs, we found traces of a strange vile drug, was she an addict ?" 

I shake my head repeatedly, I've been with Sia for two days, and she dosent even have common painkillers for herself, she has no such bad habit; that, I can vouch for .

'So who did this, does she have any enemies that I don't know of, why am I unable to see anything, and where is Ayer when I need her ,' I murmur.

I swiftly look around , Cassie is sitting right beside Sia and Juan is making a call close to the door; she's been making calls for hours now, I think its just her way of easing stress.

I can't believe im saying this but, we aren't complete, the dumbest of our quintet is missing , and for some reason its weird to me; she's usually always early to try shame me when such emergencies show up.

'I really cant believe Valentina isn't here yet, she isn't picking my calls , nor is she replying any of my texts, I hope she comes soon , before she's transferred to some other hospital,' Juan says as she sits close to a wall.

At least someone else notices as well, I hope she has no hands in this ; what am I saying, there's no way she can ever do this , no matter how cruel she may be .

'You're right, I also tried getting through to her, its really unlike her, the last time I spoke to her was when she asked if Sia would be home, and that she had some new project to share with her, the moment I mentioned Ivvy staying with her, she cut the call on me,' Cassie says, with slight dismay in her tone.

Now that sounds more like Valentina, but why call Cassie and not Sia directly, nothing really is clear here.

'If her reason for not being here is Ivvy, then im pretty disappointed , this is the moment Sia needs us all the most , and an age old beef shouldn't get the best of her reasoning,'Juan says almost sobbing out.

Juan is the most emotional being I know, I can hardly bare to see rain drops dropping down her eyelids.

'Hey Juan sweetie, I understand how you feel , but I'm sure Valentina will surely be here soon, no human can be that-,'

'Oh my gosh!'

The sound of an attacker ravages my ear from behind; Oh wait its Valentina, she almost has the worst timing; I mean who pops in the the middle of a advisory session.

'I cant believe this , what happened to my Sia , can someone tell what's going on here?' Valentina further presses on.

Now this is one of the things I hate more about her , her unsympathetic words, I know she's resulted to tears , but this whole situation isn't giving one bit.

'It took you long enough,' Cassie castigates.

'We tried calling you since yesterday Val. You didn't return our calls or texts ,now tell us why?'Juan quickly fires .

I really cant be more thankful that I answered the call as quick as I could, at least I'll get to see this drama unfold . Is it me or Valentina doesn't look too good herself.

No makeup, less accessories and a cloth that doesn't express the freshness of her lap skin, she looks more horrified than ever; not like I care though.

'I'm really sorry guys, I let you all down, but there's a perfect explanation to it,'Valentina says trying to avoid eye contact .

Yup , she's got the preggies, why else will she be this sober, Valentina had never loved children from the start, I've always felt she was specially made to despise them all.

'Then lay it all on us ,'Juan attacks.

Why so much tension here? If I know Cassie and Juan as well as I claim to, then they aren't the duo to scold almighty Val. And she isn't attacking back as she usually does.

I feel I'm in an opposite dimension right now.

'Guys, I think that's enough shouting for today, this is a hospital, and not only are we disturbing Sia, other patients wouldn't like such disturbance, at least she's here now, that's all that matters,' I say with a smirk on.

I'm Val's saviour for today-duh- I honestly hope she thanks me with a friendly convo. That's the least I deserve.

'I never asked for your help Ivvy, you're as guilty as I am, where the heck were you when this happened?' Valentina questions.

I can't believe she's pinning this on me , I mean I was only trying to help out; so much for being Miss goody too shoes Ivvy .

Now all eyes are on me, I can see the rage in Cassie's eyes ,this is the first time I've seen the sparkle in her eyes disappear.

'Cat got your tongue huh?'Valentina continues.

'I –Ivvy, I know its wrong to ask you this but-'

'Ivvy, where were you when Sia was looking for fresh breaths? ,'Cassie interrupts Juan.

'I'll tell you where she was, our dear Miss Ivvy was busy smearing the poisonous substance all over Sia,' Valentina slowly walks towards me. 'Weren't you Ivvy? I'm disgusted at your act.' She continues , and spits on the ground.

I stand in the mist of three of them, looking more confused than ever; the saying is true, humans will always turn their backs on you, but gods wont.

My predicament seems a bit of a set-up, even though Cassie hasn't said it yet, her facial expression clearly says she's bought the story, and Juan isn't even looking my direction.

I thought over 7 years of friendship was enough to prove Ayer wrong when she said "Humans should never be trusted." 

As for Valentina, I'll take her through a path she wouldn't have expected coming her way. Me keeping calm is just to make sure I don't divert from my mission.

Let's see how this goes.
