The room fell silent after the doctor's announcement. Archie's heart pounded in his chest as he tried to process the words. Evelyn, pregnant? How could that be? He knew his best friend had never been close to any man.
Evelyn was a woman who always hated relationships that were just for passing the time. She believed in waiting for the right person in her life. Not a day has gone by since he hasn't talked to her. He knows that his friend isn't in any relationship, so where did this child come from?
Meanwhile, Antonio's mind raced with disbelief. His Miss, at just 21, was too young to be thinking about marriage, let alone having a child. He knew how possessive his master and young master were towards Evelyn. They would never allow any man to get close to her. If they had known about this, they wouldn't have let the man live. But Evelyn was under their constant supervision, so where did this child come from?
"Doctor, are you certain?" Archie finally managed to ask, his voice strained.
"We need to run further tests to confirm, but the signs are unmistakable," the doctor replied, his expression grave.
When Evelyn began to stir, it was as if she were emerging from a thick fog. She felt disoriented, her mind struggling to piece together the events that had led her here. She remembered crying uncontrollably in Archie's arms, the release of pent-up grief and pain. Then came the dizziness, the nausea, and the rush to the bathroom where she had vomited violently. Everything after that was a blur.
Slowly, her surroundings came into focus. She saw Archie and Antonio standing by her bed, their faces pale and etched with worry. The doctor was there too, looking unusually serious. The air in the room was thick with tension.
"What's going on?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Her throat felt raw, her body weak.
Archie and Antonio exchanged nervous glances, neither wanting to be the one to break the news. The doctor cleared his throat, stepping forward slightly.
"Evelyn, how do you feel?" he asked gently.
"Confused," she replied, trying to sit up. Archie quickly moved to help her, propping her up with pillows. "Why do you all look so worried weird?"
The silence stretched on, thick and oppressive. Evelyn's heart began to race. "Someone please tell me what's happening," she pleaded, her voice trembling.
The doctor took a deep breath. "Evelyn, we need to discuss something very important."
"Yes I can see that already. Can you just talk now?"
"Amm... When you were brought in, you were experiencing extreme fatigue and nausea."
"I know that much,"
"Miss try to patient. Don't react heavily."
"Just say it please," Evelyn pleaded.
"After examining you, I have reason to believe that you are about two weeks pregnant."
"..."
"..."
The words hung in the air like an explosive revelation. Evelyn's mind reeled, struggling to comprehend. Pregnant? How could that be? She quickly retraced her steps to that awful night. The night she had been out, intoxicated, unaware of the horror unfolding at her home. While she was spending the night with a stranger, a bloodbath was unfolding at her home, claiming her family.
"No," she whispered, shaking her head. "That can't be right."
Archie's heart broke seeing her so distraught. He moved closer, taking her hand in his. "Eve, please relax. I know it's shocking you must not have planned this but we can walk through this. You are not alone. We are with you. Moreover the father of this child-"
"No!" Evelyn angrily yelled.
"Huh?" Archie worriedly looked at her. "What do you mean by No?!?"
Before Evelyn could answer worriedly Antonio came in between and said. "Right Right, you don't need to be worried about the father of the child."
Antonio, trying to hold back his own shock, added, "We need to figure out what you want to do. This is a huge decision, and of course whatever you choose, we'll support you."
Archie still had questions to ask like who is the father and what does it mean by that No? Have they broken up? Or the story behind this child is not good? He had lot to ask but he still has to waited for Evelyn to calm down.
"Evelyn's eyes filled with tears. 'How did this happen?' she asked, her voice cracking. 'I was so intoxicated that night. I shouldn't have gone to that party to begin with. Dad said no, but I was adamant. I wanted to go, and my brother insisted just to please me. I didn't know what I was doing. I wasn't there for them when they needed me the most. I should have been there. At least I could have died together with them.'"
"It wasn't your fault Evelyn, you know that, please don't do this to yourself," Archie said.
"No. This isn't right. Everything is wrong in this. It's a result of my mistake! How it could happen!"
"Evelyn-"
Here's an enhanced version of your statement with more emotions:
"What should I do?" Evelyn cried out, her voice choked with anguish. "I should have died that day along with them, but here I am, carrying the biggest mistake of my life in my stomach!" Her hands trembled as she clutched her belly, tears streaming down her face. "How can I ever forgive myself for this?" she whispered, her heart breaking under the weight of her guilt.
Archie raised his hand and held on to hers and squeezed reassuringly.
"Stop saying that, Evelyn. It's not your child's fault. Whatever happened that night wasn't your mistake either. I don't know what happened between you and that man, whether it was just one night or more, but I know my Evelyn. I know how honorable you are. I can't accept or believe what you're saying. Whatever happened that night was the result of someone's vengeance. We will make every person who dared to hurt you pay. Please, Evelyn, don't hurt yourself or this child in your womb. No one here is at fault."
Antonio, too, stood by her, offering his wisdom and love.
"You're stronger than you know, Evelyn. Your father and brother always believed in you. They would never blame you for not being there with them. In fact, I remember how relieved they were whenever you stayed behind the computer, leading the operation from a safe place. They were glad you weren't with them on the field. I'm sure in their final moments, they found comfort in knowing you were safe and not with them."
