"What the fuck?" Dee whispers under her breath but it's loud enough for me to hear.
"Get in here and close the door behind you." She slowly steps into the room and does as I tell her but she and Yoyo stand near the door.
The old woman before me looks frighteningly similar to Ricky, or should I say that he looks just like her? Her face, her eyes, and even her hair. It's all the same as his. She sits in her chair with a shawl over her shoulders just staring out of the window as if she hadn't noticed us walk in. I grab the clipboard at the foot of her bed and read it over.
"So? Whadda we got to work with?" Yoyo whispers.
"A nasty case of amnesia. She's most likely forgotten everything, including Ricky." She jolts her head towards me and stares at me. Her face has aged but dispie her wrinkles, she's a lovely looking woman but seeing her sit in the dark while staring out the window is a little creepy.
"Who are you?"
"Consider me a friend and these two are my colleagues. We're here to ask you a few questions, is that alright?"
"Is this another attempt to jog my memory? I said I didn't want to try again today, please leave."
"Actually were here to take you back with us. To New York."
"I thought I was being transferred tomorrow morning?"
"Ah yes well we figured it would be better to get you there as soon as possible." Dee steps forward and smiles sweetly at the woman. "How about we get you down to the car? Are your things packed and ready to go?"
The woman points to the bags on the floor next to her bed and I grab them. "I'll take them out to to the car for you. Yoyo, stay her and help Dee get her down the stairs." He nods.
"Uh-hum," Dee clears her throat and taps her wrist. "We don't got a lot of time, so let's go Ms.?"
"I don't remember my name..."
"Oh shit. I am so sorry ma'am."
"It's fine. You can call me whatever you feel is best."
"Well how about we call you Ms. H?" I speak without thinking and they all turn around and look at me. "I mean we don't have too...It was just the first thing I could think of."
"Ms. H? I like it." She stands from the edge of the chair and pull her shawl closer to her. "I am ready to leave now."
***
"Has he called back yet?"
"No, not yet."
"What the hell?! How are we supposed to pull this off if we don't have any input from that jackass?" She stomps her foot and whines.
"Don't worry, Mr. Martinez is a busy man and recently if I'm lucky if I can even get a text from him. His presence has become scarce so we're on our own for a little while."
"On our own?! We might as well call this whole thing off and try next year." She plops down at the bar and fixes herself a drink. "Want me to make you one?"
"Hey I know, why don't you stop day drinking and help me plan this fucking thing!"
"Sheesh, okay you little monster."
"I am not little."
"Then gimme a high-five." She raises her hand over her head and grins.
"I have nothing to prove to you now stop playing around and get serious Lina! We don't have much time to plan, let alone goof around."
"Okay okay, I'll start looking for a caterer and handle the guest list. Can you get the decorations and book a dj?"
"That's the spirit! And look who you're talking to. I can decorate in my sleep."
"Yeah, right."
"Lina please don't tell me that you're not feeling this because of you-know-who?"
"Ugh, it's not like that...I always help you with the meetings but I feel like this is so last minute and it'll be terrible because it's rushed!"
"Christ, you are such a shitty liar." I fan myself and join her at the bar. "Let me tell you something about Mr. Martinez that might make you feel a little better." I snag her drink and sip it. "He's a fool. A complete and utter idiot."
"How is that supposed to make me feel better when I already knew that?" She rolls her eyes and makes another drink.
"No no, I mean when it comes to the lady-folk. He thinks that lust is love and that always backfires on him. He takes interest in a woman, they get together, he loses interest and they never speak again. Really is a bad little problem of his."
"So basically I was a booty call? Wow thank you so much for that, Fernando." She finishes her drink and starts to gather her things.
"Wait, I didn't mean to offend you! I was just telling you to not take it personally!" She flicks me off and heads for the door. "Just make sure to read over the guestlist and send it to me!"
"Whatever you say you tiny man! Toodles!" She waves and takes her leave.
'I am not tiny...Just peite is all.'
