Dual Affinity

There was something different about the engyure that was above their heads. The raures seemed more agitated than usual, and there was another piece to the puzzle that had started to come together through the movement of the raures.

The wind howled amongst them all and with the chill in the air, Felicity couldn't tell what was a gut reaction or an instinctual discomfort anymore with her body going crazy being pushed to the brink of exhaustion. To the maximum.

For a moment, everything died down. Or rather in her head, everything suddenly went into a slow motion. Felicity flipped over in the water to duck from an attack with Tatum dragging her out before she was fully submerged. Yet, it was only for that second when she saw everyone around her.

Her vision dragged on the people, watching as a film flickered in front of her eyes, Medina stabbing raures with the last of her arrows, the blue cage flaring as it perished. Ren chucked his gun into the water as it was rendered useless without ammo and resorted to his tiny dagger.

Beau dragged the other soldiers away from the current that was threatening to take them away. Melissa was doing her best at trying to keep her head above the waters while Leo grasped her arm to get her out of direct range from the raures.

Breathing hard, she huffed out a thanks to Tatum. Medina began shouting orders that went through one ear out through the other. Their sights were still set on the sky, wondering when the rescue team would come in.

She finally got herself stabilized in the perilous ocean, reaching out to Leo for support. He yanked her around into himself for the small protection that he could offer her and inclined his head toward her when her lips started to quiver in worry.

He wrapped his arm around her waist as they pressed their blades next to each other, and the heavy clanking of the two metals pushed up together didn't seem to be a normal feat but rather something was making her whole hand shock awake.

"Keep your chin up," he muttered.

Felicity gritted her teeth as he lurched forward with their swords, and Leo raked in a breath from the physical exertion their affinity weapons were draining out of them with a speed that was unrivaled to the normal amount that was dragging as much as it was.

She nodded and moved along with Leo to match his strokes as if they were dancing in the water, their strides graceful despite the water underneath threatening to take them under. Melissa screamed behind her, and Felicity whipped her head around to see what it was.

Felicity's jaw dropped as she was taken aback by the huge figure rising out of the water. The transparent and glowing bodies attached to create one seamless formation. In the distance, she could faintly hear Medina yelling to retreat and pull back, but all she could hear was the whoosh in her ears.

"Necklace!" Medina barked.

Felicity frowned. "What?"

"Your pendant! Break it on your blades!"

Leo reached forward and ripped the gemstone from her neck, but Felicity was so out of it as he crushed the small stone in his hand all over her lavender sword. The pale blue liquid fell and mixed with the dark waves of the ocean.

The water around them was quaking, and Felicity frantically shook her head to signal to Medina that nothing was happening.

Leo dragged Felicity back a bit since she was catching the drift of the current that was leading the raures away, and she pressed up against him since he was the only one that she was able to hold onto and that she knew wouldn't let her down, in turn pressing their blades together.

The irregular hum returned, sending chills down her spine as Leo suddenly jerked back.

"What are you doing?" Felicity asked frantically.

Leo's grim facial expression didn't give anything away as he placed her lavender blade against his midnight one, and it clicked in her mind. Felicity gasped when both the swords burned sapphire blue. A deadly colored hue that matched the color of the sky outside amidst the storm.

Felicity screamed when their blades fused together with a harsh snap, and Leo took the weight of it and swung. It cut through water with ease, and Felicity's mouth opened in shock when four raures broke open. It left clean cuts in their ribcages, and their once blue hearts turned dull and burst.

She had no idea what strengthened their blade, but the formidable foe that was forming right in front of their eyes was a sight to be seen. Felicity's stomach turned when she was brought back to the time Obrien had caged them to experiment on them. Their affinity blades were a gift as much as a curse.

The raures geared up again for another attack, the water hostile and moving, and Felicity was startled by Melissa's sharp gasp. "The raures are combining!"

How was that possible? In the darkness, it was hard to tell far away, but as the large figure somehow came closer, one could tell. More raures jumped on one another to get themselves closer to the mutant, and Medina and Beau were the closest.

They looked at each other for a moment before they both immediately attacked, drawing their weapons high, and were forced back by the blow of the creature with a screech so loud it made Felicity weak in the knees.

The snarl of the creature vibrated the waves and made Felicity flinch and cover her ears. Beau took the damage of the attack, pushing Medina backward, and they grappled through the air.

Felicity screamed, stretching her arm outward in shock. Melissa's face was pale as she shined her green eyes on the new enemy while the other soldiers didn't back down. The distinct splash and yell were covered by sounds of air escaping water.
