Louise's visit and the strange activity within the house, had meant that there had been a few fraught months. Nina had tried to carry on as normal, but the constant irritation had been draining. Rory had a concerned look on his face whenever he spoke to her. They now seemed to be in a more settled period and their anxiety was, therefore, reducing.

Joy and Martin, sensing that there was tension, had paid their usual visits, each time enquiring, earnestly, how everyone was. Rory and Nina reassured them that they were well and that they were simply a bit tired. They all avoided talking about the issue, but it was in the background of a number of conversations. Every time they called around, there was another gift for the baby. Hand knitted cardigans, baby-grows, even talc and a dummy, had been handed over.
