"How can I defeat a sorcerer that can make anything intangible? Sorcery spells are nearly infinite and no one knows how they work, but 1 thing everyone is confident about is that every spell can be countered. What spell do I know that can counter intangibility?"
You walk on the road towards Dirritanti and the only thing you can think about is Vancass. Sorcerers are people with nearly infinite power. The only thing confining them is their equipment and stamina. The thought of someone using such power for their own selfishness is not something that should be allowed.
Vancass is an evil sorcerer and you need to slay him. This isn't an option either. Letting him live will only do more harm then good. Alianna was such a sorcerer and she cursed an entire Forest and filled it with undead creatures to make herself immortal. Such people should be stripped of their power or executed on the spot.
The tricky part is figuring out how to go around their magic. "I'll figure it out later. I need to first get to the plague doctors of Dirritanti." You suddenly hear a little bit of playful laughter, as if a child is somewhere near you. You look around and see nothing suspicious. "I am over here!"
A cute, childlike and squeaky voice comes from your right and you look over to find the source, but you see absolutely nothing. No one is standing there, but you hear the same voice say "Down here, big guy."
You look downwards and see some kind of small creature standing on your shoulder. It looks like a small, green elf with fairy like wings. You wonder what this creature is and why is it on your shoulder. You try to catch it, but it flies up and dodges your hand. "Wow there. We just became acquaintances! Being all touchy isn't welcome at the moment."
The small fairy floats in front of your face and you stare at it. You haven't seen fairies once in your life, but you are 100% confident this creature is no fairy. "What is your name, little creature?"
The small fairy-like person floats around your head and sits down on your shoulder. "My name is Jann and I am a minimite!" You look at the creature and ask "I have never heard of minimites before. Are they some kind of rare species or an extinct race?" The little minimite looks at you with a sad expression and says "Sadly minimites aren't really liked by other people because of our unique "abilities". They consider us ungodly and try to kill us by any means necessary, but minimites are born through nature. We don't reproduce and will never die out!"
Jann looks like a nice fellow, although a bit annoying. Jann stops explaining the story of minimites to you suddenly and sits down on top of your head. "What are you doing up there, Jann?" Jann peaked his small head down and looked into your right eye and said "I'm staying inside your hoodie. I am a bit too tired to fly."
You squint your eye and say "You are not coming with me. The road ahead of me is dangerous and I don't want to have such a small creature to protect. You coming with me will be put you in a lot of danger, so I recommend you leave me!"
Jann's face looked at you with a sad expression and said "But, I like you. You are one of the only people who hasn't tried to throw me away or kill me. The village up ahead is a bit chaotic and I can help you navigate. Please let me stay with you!"
You shake your head to say no and at the same time to shake Jann out of your hoodie. Jann grabs ahold of your hair tightly and doesn't let go no matter how you try. You take off your hoodie and try to pick Jann up, but Jann flies and goes into your shirt. "Come out of here, little minimite! I don't want you to get injured. You might even lose your life if you stay with me. My mission is to defeat the Archmage of Mampang himself and retrieve the Staff Of Kings. I don't want you to risk your life for me."
Jann punches your chest from the inside of your shirt and screams in his squeaky voice "No! I like you! Even if I die, I don't want to leave. Leaving you will out me at greater risk than staying with you and I can even protect you." You sigh and try to reason with the little guy as you walk, wasting time isn't something you can do now.
"Little guy, how can you protect me?" The little minimite comes out of your shirt and stands on your left shoulder with a puffed up chest "I am blessed by the stars and can protect anyone from any magical attacks!" Your eyes widen at the little guy's claim. "He can protect me from spells?! What an amazing creature! I can easily defeat even the Archmage with him by my side!"
You nod to Jann and allow him to sit on your shoulder and don't try to chase him away anymore. You continue on your way and finally reach the dream place, the only hope for Ursatanti. You step through the town gates and you are finally here. "I have finally reached Dirritanti! The next step is to find some information about the local doctors and try to find a plague Doctor."
The best place to look for people and communicate with them is of course a tavern. Jann came in really hand. Jann's ability to fly allows him to get a bird's eye view of this place and he easily spotted a house with a big beer mug painting at its front. Jann guided you towards it and you arrived there within minutes.
You enter the tavern and see it is full of guests. Grown Men, woman and even some young men are sitting around tables with their friends, eating and laughing with satisfied expressions on their faces. You go towards the guy sitting at the bar and order a mug of beer.
The man sitting behind the bar looks at you and says "How might the young hero be doing today?" You look at the man with a confused expression and a mouthful of beer. The man laughs and says "I can see from your stature and your aura you are a wandering knight. I used to be an adventurer myself, but that is back in my young days and I don't have the strength to go out anymore."
You swallow your beer and laugh a bit. "Wandering Knights are truly honorable people, but I am not one of them. I am more of a sorcerer than a knight myself! I got a slight injury and am looking for a doctor around here. Know any competent one I can go to?"
The middle aged man at the bar looks at you and sighs. "First, some advice for you. If you are a sorcerer, I would recommend getting rid of that thing." The man points at the minimite who drank a bit of your beer and is already so drunk he fell asleep in your pants pocket.
"Secondly, I know why you need to visit the doctor and I would recommend giving up. Everyone in this city knows about the the plague in Ursatanti, but we can't do anything. No doctor can cure it and this plague is different from the ones before. The best course of action is giving up on Ursatanti and allowed the plague to die off without any major outbreak." The cold hearted words of the middle aged man stun you. As it turned out, the whole city was in on it. Everyone knew about the outbreak, but no one can cure it and no one is willing to risk an outbreak occurring.
"Can I truly do nothing to save them? Have I been wrong this entire time?" Thoughts of hopelessness run through your mind as you remind yourself of the horror you saw in Ursatanti. The Young, old, middle aged and even children collapsing onto the ground with heavy faces and green saliva coming out of their mouths. No matter how much you are told, you can't ignore such a sight. "How can I just ignore them! How can I just give up on them?! No man should be sacrificed along with his family and friends for the sake of others!"
You look at the old man and say "There must be a way! It is a disease! All diseases can be treated! The plague doctors only need to try harder!" The middle aged man sighs and tells you "Look, I don't really care much and know you at all. I just wanted to help out a man who looked like he needed. I recommend going to the Crystal Waterfall. Legends say it can help relax and relieve fatigue. The cost is also only 2 gold coins. Go there and relax yourself. There is physically nothing you can do to help them, so don't beat yourself up about it!"
You look downwards in shame and leave without drinking the rest of your beer. You give the middle aged man the 2 gold coins you owe him and leave the Tavern with a depressed mood. "Can I really do nothing? I am not a doctor and neither can I cure a plague. The only thing I am good at is fighting and sorcery, but I haven't learned any healing spells or anything of the sorts. Maybe I should give up?"
You have nothing to do. You have already abandoned hope. You can't save the village no matter how hard you try and decide to go explore Dirritanti in hopes of finding something to lift up your mood. Jann is out cold inside your pocket from his drunk he is and is doing nothing.
You talk with a few strangers and they all recommend you stay for tonight's big festival and visit the Crystal Waterfall. You don't have anything better to do and the relaxing sound of a waterfall are what you need the most right now.
You head to the east of the village and walk for a couple of minutes before you leave it through a gate and arrive next to a mountain. The mountain looks extraordinary beautiful with the crystal clear waterfall coming down from its side an going into a small lake below the mountainside.
You see a man with a big stature guarding the entrance towards the waterfall. He looks at you and allows you to enter after you pay him the 2 gold coin fee and he allows you to enter the waterfall. You find a secluded place away from all others and store your clothes with Jann inside of them before you enter the cold lake and relax your body.
You swim a couple of meters into the lake and feel some kind of weird stellar energy wash over your body. You feel your body become stronger and heal. The pollution from the air of Shamutanti hills has been cleared out and your muscles have healed. Your maximum stamina has increased by 2. You have 18/18 stamina now.
"This! What is this! This Waterfall actually has the ability to heal wounds! How is this possible! I need to find out!" You dive deeper and look for any sign of a grimalkin or any special items that might be causing this weird effect, but you find nothing. You look at the stars, but it's the same. There are no special constellations blessing this place, but the waterfall has such miraculous effects.
"This, this is it! If I can bring all the people from Ursatanti back to this place, then this miracle water might be able to cure them! I need to go now!" You quickly rush out of the water and dry yourself with a towel the guard gave you. You out on your clothes and head back.
You give the towel you were given back to the big guy guarding the entrance and walk through the city. Your eyes are completely clouded and the only thing you are thinking about is completing your goal and saving Ursatanti. Even if it is a small bit of hope, you hold onto it and continue walking forwards.
You walk for a couple of minutes and Jann rushes out of your pocket and floats next to you. "Analander, Anlander, ANALANDER! You are going the wrong way!" You look towards him and say "I know!" Jann sees your expression and is startled to a complete stop. Jann quickly regains his composure and continues after you "Analander, you can't go back! If you do, you will waste 2 days on walking! Those are 2 extra days the Archmage will have to prepare himself!"
You stop and hesitate. You want to save them, but you also don't want to give the Archmage any extra time to ready himself for your attack. You know this is wrong, you know you might put the world at danger for this, but, just this once, you want to be selfish and hold onto that little bit of hope. You grit your teeth and continue walking.
You bump into people left and right, but your strength has come back to you and nothing can stop you. You walk through the village and come near the entrance. Night has already come and you estimate it Is around 9pm. Jann keeps screaming at you to stop and give up. You look around with gritted teeth and a resolute expression "It doesn't matter! I need to save those poor people! Even if I am putting the world in danger, I will save them! What's the point in saving the world if I let an entire village die when I could have saved them!"
"Well said!" A voice comes from an unknown location. This voice is very familiar to you and you look back to see who it is. "You, you're the owner of that tavern!"
The middle aged man you met before sighs and says "I know who you are, Analander. I told you to give up! Why won't you just stop wasting time and focus on your mission?" You look at the man more carefully and a sudden realization hits you. "You are Galandor!"
The man nods. Galandor is a legendary adventurer. He is also knows as Galandor the Battleaxe. He wielded a mighty axe made of a special enchanted iron. The axe had a total power of 12 and could even become a conductor for stellar energy. The most notable thing about Galandor are his comrades. He had 3 party members and one of them is now a major noble in Khare, one of them has disappeared without a trace and the fourth one is a sorceress named Anne, your master.
"That is right. As both of your masters sworn brother, I am also considered your uncle and, as your uncle, I command you to stop your foolishness and go back to your mission!" Galandor looks at you with a blank expression and is waiting for you to say a direct yes.
You look the man you respected all of your childhood and say, without the slightest hesitation "No!" Galandor's face changes instantly and he says "Excise me! Did you just say no?!" You look him dead in his eyes and say "I do not care who you are! Even if you were the king himself, I wouldn't agree to this! My master has taught me how to be humble and kind! I will never turn my back on Ursatanti, even if I do cause the destruction of the world!"
Galandor now looks at you with an angry expression and screams at you "GIVE UP! There is no hope of saving them!" You smile and say "There is still hope!"
Galandor looks at you, stunned and asks "What do you mean?" "The Crystal Waterfall! It has magical properties! It might cure the villagers if I bring them here!" "A waterfall! That is your hand plan! Your gonna bet the survival of the entire world on a waterfall! That is too irresponsible! Heck, how do you plan on getting through Vancass? He won't let you bring even a single person, much less the entire village of Ursatanti!" Said the now enraged Galandor.
"I have Jann! He can help protect me from Vancass and help bring them over!" Galandor's eyes widen, as if he had just been enlightened. Galandor's expression of anger calms down and he says "How sure are you the waterfall can cure the villagers?" Without the slightest hesitation, you look at Galandor and say "I am willing to put the survival of the entire world at stake. That is proof enough of how confident I am in it!"
Galandor nods and says, after sighing "Alright, I will trust in you. I will go my self! I might be rusty and weapon less, but I am not helpless! I'll fight of Vancass and bring the villagers to the waterfall." Your expression lights up and you rush to hug Galandor "Thank you, uncle."
You let go of Galandor after your shirt hug and look at the small minimite on your shoulder. Jann looks back at you and says "Alright! I am only doing this because I don't want the world to be destroyed. Just make sure you don't die on your way to Mampang and you save the world."
You nod your head and wave as the two people you put your trust into head towards the bridge of Vancass and you concentrate on your goal. Now, you have nothing distracting you from your journey. It is too late to find an inn to stay at, but you don't need an inn. You can sleep outdoors for a single night.
You find a safe spot away from Dirritanti and laid down there to sleep. With no more worries on your mind, you fall asleep quickly and can finally relax.
Galandor was a legendary adventurer who you could convince to help save the plagued village in exchange for a rusted axe you could have bought back in Cantopani. The axe would remind him of his heroic past and he would leave along with Jann as a supervisor to complete the mission Analander entrusted him with. Everything else is mostly the same.
