Nature's Apostle

In an alternate version of Earth, where VR games were the norm, a new VR MMORPG game called Desolate Frontier has been dominating the market for six months through its beta test. The game has been so popular that almost 80% of the gamer population has preordered the game. --- This story will follow Arthur Saville, the last remaining heir of a family of noble lineage, as he ventures into the world of the Desolate Frontier, shaking the world with his monstrous skills and intelligence. But what will always remain a secret is the source of his powers. --- Most probably, I won't monetize this novel; hence, the upload of chapters will be slow. Probable upload rate: 1~2 chapters per week.

I Love The Feeling Of Spending Exp

TIME passes quite quickly when you are filled with loads of vigour and motivation. It was the same for me. Two hours have passed after the server-wide message. During these two hours, I had amassed a huge amount of experience points.

The experience points were more than enough to increase all of my stats to 50. And I did just that, without hesitation. I must say the feeling of spending Exp felt amazingly good. Maybe I should try it with real money as well, not that I lacked it in the first place.

Except for the basic attributes, I also increased Luck by 1. By the next increase, the cost jumped directly to 1,000 Exp. It was the same for Stamina and Charm. I increased Luck by one and the price jumped to 10,000 Exp. Thus, for the moment, I left them as they were.

Due to the 10x Exp Boost as well as me being just a level 1 player, I had amassed a lot of Exp, slightly more than 1.5 million. It was mainly because I was hunting level 10 monsters deep into the mountains with the forest.

With this much Exp, there were a lot of things that I could do, like upgrading or buying new talents, skills or equipment. Instead, I decided to upgrade my race. Yes, you heard that right, I decided to upgrade my race. The main reason was that it could potentially increase my attribute limits.

Thus, I spent a few minutes searching for different races and finally decided on a race named 'Superior Human'. As its name suggests, it was an evolution or upgraded version of the 'Human' race, but it was human nonetheless.

I didn't want to change into an entirely different race or even a hybrid as it would probably create problems with the human NPCs of these worlds if the previous fantasy games were anything to go by.

Thus, I bought the 'Superior Human' race after careful consideration. It cost me 1 million Exp but I knew it would be worth it. Hopefully.

<Ding! You have received a 'Superior Human' race change token.>

I opened the inventory and checked the description of the token.

= = = = = = = = = =

|> Superior Human

Type: Race Change Token

Description: Upon use, the user's race is changed to 'Superior Human'. Cannot be dropped.

= = = = = = = = = =

The description wasn't much so I quickly used the token to see the real changes for myself.

<Ding! Using a race change token.>

<Ding! Changing the player's race to 'Superior Human'.>

<Ding! Race changed successfully.>

I felt a soft glow all over my body before it disappeared. There wasn't any change from what I could see except my muscles looked more well defined. But a notification quickly took my attention.

<Ding! The limit of all basic attribute points has been increased to 100.>

Excited by the notification, I opened up the Exp Shop and bought 50 points for each attribute before they greyed out again. The cost was still the same as before. But what caught my attention was the cost of hidden attributes. Previously, I had increased all of them by 1 and the cost for another increase was 1,000 but now all of them were priced at 1 million.

"Hmm. Let's assume that every player starts with 1 point in every hidden attribute, then after buying once, they would be at 2. The price increased by ten times every purchase. Since now, it's 1 million, it is an increase of a thousand times or three purchases. Therefore, my hidden attributes must have reached 5 for each."

It took me some time to conclude. In simple words, my race change has increased my hidden attributes by three points except for Luck. Since for it, the increase was only by two points.

Another thing that I noticed, and was of importance was that there was no 'Cannot be traded' in the description of the race change token. And if my hunch was right, then it would change everything.

Just imagine, that I could simply provide God-like races to my subordinates and I could simply rule the world. But that would be boring, right? Then again, I would also have to take care of betrayals and such kind of stuff. It was simply not worth it.

Anyways, coming back to the present, after buying the race change token and maxing out my attributes, which didn't cost a lot, I still have around 500,000 Exp left in the bank.

Deciding to prioritize my Exp gain, I choose to upgrade my 'Nature's Blessing' talent. To upgrade it to E, the cost was 5,000 Exp. I upgraded it without hesitation. The next upgrade cost 10,000 Exp.

I continued upgrading it until B, after which the next upgrade cost me 500,000 Exp. I was still lacking by 150,000 Exp, thus, I decided to upgrade my other talent to B as well.

I checked their description after the upgrade.

= = = = = = = = = =

|> Gifted Archer (B)

Type: Talent

Description: A talent in the art of archery.

Effect: Archery Proficiency +100%

= = = = = = = = = =

= = = = = = = = = =

|> Nature's Blessing (B)

Type: Talent

Description: Blessed by Mother Nature.

Effect: Experience Gain +100%

I must say the upgrade was terrifying, mainly because they were permanent and also the fact, that I could upgrade them further. I checked my player status to see the changes.

The status panel looked pretty good, I guess. But if you want me to be honest, it looked like it belonged to a cheat player with a plug-in.

But according to news outlets, it wasn't that easy to crack this game. Of course, there was the possibility of an enemy hiring world-class hackers, but who could this enemy be? Probably other game-making companies. But the thing was, if such companies could hire hackers, couldn't AIS, the world's leading corporation in the fields of Virtual Reality and Games, hire their hackers?

But it was a potty-time pondering question. One could ponder over it for eternity but still fail to come up with a reasonable answer. After all, there was also a possibility of the owner of AIS offending someone during his youth, and now that person has become the boss of some super-duper secret and all-powerful organization.

As someone said there is nothing impossible in this world.
