Chapter 56: The Blame Man, Baki
Chiba has returned to the village.
As soon as he stepped onto the street, a familiar scene unfolded before my eyes.
"The dung digger is here!"
Seeing Chiba's presence, people on the street began to vomit and run in fear. Shops on both sides quickly closed down, and the commotion continued.
Even the villagers who were selling their goods abandoned their stalls and fled without looking back. Within a short time, Chiba was the only one left on the entire street.
What is invincibility?
This is it.
What is influence?
This is it.
Walking all the way home, he felt a sense of accomplishment.
"I should get some sleep first."
He hadn't slept for two days, and the only brief moment of rest he had was on Baki's camel cart.
"When I wake up, I'll start working on the farm."
Feeling a surge of excitement, Chiba fell asleep with hopes for a better life.
"Chiba?"
Chiba swore he had just fallen asleep, but he was abruptly awakened. Rubbing his eyes, he looked at the person who had entered.
He saw five individuals wearing thick masks standing in the room, all staring at him in unison, and one of them was wearing a Hokage robe.
Chiba was left speechless.
"Why do I feel like a patient? Are these five doctors here for rounds?"
Silently sighing, he reluctantly sat up.
"Ahem, Chiba, this time we've come to ask you a few questions," Sarutobi Hiruzen coughed twice, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
After all, Chiba had returned on his own, and as the Hokage, he had no means to rescue him, which left Sarutobi Hiruzen feeling a little awkward. The interrogation began promptly.
"Did you destroy the Sand Shinobi's resting station?"
"I flooded it with a cesspit."
"Where are the ninjas stationed at the resting station?"
"They all drowned."
"When did you flood the Sand Shinobi's resting station?"
"Well... after being teleported away by Rosa."
After the inquiries, Sarutobi Hiruzen left with a few others.
Once they stepped out of Chiba's yard, they removed their masks.
"Homura, your speculation was correct," Sarutobi Hiruzen looked at Homura with admiration in his eyes.
Analyzing the situation based on a single piece of information and deducing the problem with the Sand Shinobi—such wisdom deserved admiration from Hiruzen.
"Now that Chiba has flooded the Sand Shinobi's resting station, shouldn't we launch a full-scale counterattack?" Danzo spoke with an extremely excited tone.
However, Hiruzen ignored him and continued to look at Homura, clearly seeking his advice.
"If we were to retaliate now, it would likely be too late," Homura pondered for a moment before expressing his thoughts.
"Since Chiba flooded the Sand Shinobi's resting station, it's likely that the Sand Shinobi's frontline troops have already withdrawn their ninjas."
"The optimal time for a counterattack has passed. At this point, the Sand Shinobi Village has most likely already delivered supplies to their front lines..."
...
The Third Kazekage was enraged.
He stood in front of Baki, seething with anger.
"You kept insisting that the dung digger was from our village, but what happened? It turns out that he was a Konoha spy who infiltrated us!"
"You not only allowed Rosa to be killed by him, but I'm starting to wonder if you're also a spy for Konoha."
The Third Kazekage was so furious that he slapped Baki, causing him to crash against the wall. Baki fell to the ground, his already swollen face even more swollen.
At this moment, Baki couldn't help but feel incredibly unlucky.
Shouldn't it be the responsibility of the captain of the village guard to deal with Konoha spies infiltrating the village? He, as the leader of the intelligence team, should not be involved.
What made him even angrier was that the dozen or so newly recruited subordinates immediately betrayed him upon their return to the village, shifting all the blame onto him.
As a result, those dozen or so Sand Shinobi remained unscathed, while he faced the wrath of the Third Kazekage.
Lying in the corner, Baki dared not move.
He was afraid that if he stood up, he would be struck by the Third Kazekage again.
"Get out of my sight!"
Looking at Baki lying on the ground, Kazekage shouted in anger.
Afterward, the Third Kazekage sat down on a chair, took out a blank scroll, and began writing.
Baki cautiously got up, not daring to breathe.
Finally!
When the Kazekage finished writing, he closed the scroll and tossed it to Baki.
"I hereby order you to go to Konoha Village and deliver this scroll to Sarutobi Hiruzen personally. Can you handle that?"
Staring at Baki with cold eyes, the Third Kazekage spoke harshly.
"Yes, I can!" Baki nodded vigorously.
He had no choice. If he refused, he was certain that his life would end in the coming year.
Baki left.
Only the Kazekage remained in the office.
With a swift motion, he unfolded a map, and his eyes began scanning back and forth.
"Rosa is dead, and his placer gold was an important source of funds."
"We need to gather funds as quickly as possible, just in case."
Muttering to himself, the Third Kazekage's gaze landed on a particular country.
The Land of Whirlpools!
