Hitchhikers

"Alright, we should keep a bit away from the road but still close enough so if we find a merchant getting robbed or something we can hitchhike as protection."I said to them as we ran back out the town back into the forest.

"Wait, we won't be able to keep up with you."Murayama suddenly said reminding me their normal kids.

"Right, then we'll just walk."I said slowing down my pace allowing them to catch up.

After around an hour of walking we suddenly hear yelling where the road is, going to investigate we found a guy in a wagon getting a pitchfork pointed at him.

'These guys aren't even real bandits, they're just trying to survive, sorry, but we are too!'I exclaimed in my mind as I ran up behind the guy with the pitchfork and sweep him off his feet surprising him and the other four guys with him.

"What the hell?! Who are you kid?!"One of them with a common kitchen knife exclaims.

"Just a wandering kid with ninja training."I said light heartedly.

"You, ninja training? Don't make me laugh."Some cocky asshole said making me groan.

"God, I hate this cliche, let's just skip to where I surprise you and beat your ass while you beg for mercy, yeah?"I said.

"What? You beat our ass kid? Hah, do--"Cutting him off I enhance my speed with air bending and punch him straight in the temple knocking him out.

"Annoying asshole."I mumble to myself, looking to the rest of the people I saw them shaking in fear.

"What? You want some too?"I said half turning my head to them showing only one eye and giving myself a scary expression. In response they dropped their weapons and ran, including the guy I dropped to the floor, but seeing mud all over his face was kinda funny.

"Th-Thank you so much! How can I repay you?"The merchant said after getting off his cart bowing his head to me.

"Well since your traveling I'm assuming you're going out of the village, but how? Isn't locked down?"I questioned him.

"Yes, under normal circumstances, but I was sent by the Daimyo himself to get him food from out of the villages?"

"But then why don't you have any ninja as an envoy?"

"That's because there are non to spare, all efforts are being put to patrol the borders and towards exterminating clans. Speaking of, you and that girl look like from the Tenshioni clan."

"Yeah, so what? You gonna sell us out?"I questioned him seeing as the cat is outta the bag, I'm kinda starting to hate these unique looks.

"Oh no, my father actually fought in the last war and wouldn't have been alive if it wasn't for the fact that someone from your clan saved him. I just want to repay you more now really."He said, but I still don't trust him.

"Ok, then take us with you to the border, I don't expect you to take us through so we'll get off a little before."I said.

"Ok! That's fine!"He said agreeing.

"You guys can sit in the wagon while I drive!"He suggested.

"No, I'll sit with you in the front."

"O-Ok."He agreed fearfully hearing my tone. Helping Murayama and Haku get in the back of the wagon, I grab the knife the guy from earlier dropped before I go and sit in the front with the guy as he guided the horses.

(That Night)

"Okay, we'll stop here to rest."He said pulling into a town. Leaving the horses at a horse stall along with the wagon we walk towards an inn before getting one room with two beds. Getting to the room, the guy talks.

"Eh, I don't think all three of you will fit in one bed."He said.

"That's fine, cause I'm sleeping with you."I said, thinking about it, it actually sounds gay, but I have my reasons! The main one is if he sells us out or something I can use the kitchen knife from earlier to easily end this guys life, and if required, burn this guy to hell, after all, keep your friends close but your enemy's closer.

"A-Aah, are you sure?"He asked but with one glare he went silent. As I was sleeping though, I feel someone suddenly shaking me, waking up I saw Murayama and Haku.

"Murayama, Haku, what happened?"I asked groggily but quietly.

"We had a nightmare."Murayama said, and rubbing my eyes I saw Haku and Murayama have tears threatening to come out their eyes. Sighing I got out the bed and got in the other one putting them on either side of me, seemed we fit after all, anyways, rubbing their heads to sleep I couldn't help but smile.

'So this is what being a parent feels like, huh?'I questioned rhetorically in my head. Going to sleep after they did, they snuggled up to me unconsciously, that night was not a cold one, but one filled with warmth, subconsciously filling each others hole in their heart, even if a little.

So, late chapter, kinda, but honestly I have no excuse, god no wonder I'm failing school... anyways, that's the chapter, a bit short sure, but I felt that's a good place to leave it, so see u guys tmm I guess!
