Everything happened rather quickly to be honest; the minute we arrived I had Hyun-Ki's parents welcome me like old times with such vigour that Hyuk had just gotten a hold of his baby brother in time whilst I had to hold onto Geon before he almost got trampled by not only them, but there servants who had remembered me when I stayed over for a while. It took them a while to calm down before Hyun-Ki almost trampled over his own parents himself to escort me to his mansion...which had changed a lot to say the least since my time there almost 11-12 years ago. Half the servants had fled, all the female ones were either pregnant or they had children of their own running amok in the mansion which had lost half of its luxurious splendour. In fact there was pretty much nothing left that could tell you that this place had been handed down by generations of scholars who served in the royal palace. I struggled a bit between Hyun-Ki who had whatever servants he had left make a huge spread of food for us and his parents who had began sobbing uncontrollably. It was true that I wasn't mush of a disciplinarian but I did not like the state of the home at all. I had fed my baby in the carriage so the first thing that I had asked was to be shown the room in which I would be staying and for my son and nephew to have their dinner brought to their rooms so they could watch over the baby at the same time whilst I dined in this....peaceful home. Hyuk looked up at me and I assured my little man that I would be ok if I was alone for a while. I couldn't help but look at him fondly as he left with his baby brother in his arms, honestly if I didn't have my possessive husband standing behind me at all times than I ha day own little man who pretty much dictated my actions as soon as his father was away at work...and I loved him for it.
I had been placed right in between Hyun-Ki and his mother who kept a firm grip on my hand as if I was going to vanish into thin air or something. I had all the best dishes piled onto my plate and we ate in silence for a while before all of the concubines had made their way into the dining room and sat with us without so much as an invitation; something I couldn't help but notice. I tried to stifle my little giggle, but it was really hard when I saw just how unmanaged these women were. I was all for women equality but there were just some women with...unnamable personalities that you couldn't help or change no matter how much you tried. They started eyeing me and looking at how Hyun-Ki treated me...well the look on their face told me everything. I just rolled my eyes, it was like I was back at my work places and in the palace; there was always somebody who didn't like the new girl or got jealous over nothing. So it looked like my stay here wasn't going to be dull at all, in fact I didn't know how much I missed handling some types of people in my life until I was brought back here...where I spent some of my best times with my husband, even it was in strained circumstances...
For every snide remark they made I had a subtle answer. For every look they gave me I had one in return. For every trick they tried to pull on me during dinner I was well used to it and I coyly anticipate it in seconds. And soon enough we had a table full of spilt food and drink, but everything turned into more chaos than it already was when a whole group of children had ran in uncontrollably and had started eating everything off of every surface available. At that very moment a very sore Hyo-Sonn had walked in with her eyes as wide as plates when she saw me sitting with her parents-in-law. But before she made her way to me her mother-in-law had gotten up in a fit of rage that was unlike anything I had ever seen from her and started scolding her harshly about the mismanagement of the household that she was supposed to be in charge of as 'the main wife' that she so desperately wanted to be. I almost felt bad for her...until I remembered everything she had put me through. In the end I was almost dragged by Hyuk who came running to me as soon as he heard the noise and began to drag me away whilst I dragged away Hyun-Ki's parents, leaving him alone to clear up all the mess his 'family' had left behind.
