Sonnis's gift

Sonnis walked through the forest holding the box close to her chest. Unknown to her minutes after she had departed, Amos had began to follow her. All his thoughts were painted with the blood of his sister, and now he couldn't let his lovely young cousin wander toward his sister's doom. He didn't care if Sonnis was supposed to do this alone, he had told no one he was going after her.

He stayed far behind her, one time he lost sight of her. When he found her she was leaning over the stream, she splashed her face with water. He was confused, but then when she looked up he was surprised to see her face had turned humanlike. She spread the water over her hair and he watched it turn dull and brown. Then she swiped her hands through the water and rubbed it up her arms. Soon her entire body had turned completely human like, but somehow it suited her. Amos had heard her mother had once been human, and Sonnis was still beautiful as a human. She looked around herself, forcing Amos to lean back into the shadows of the trees. But she continued so she must not have seen him.

They were close to the village now, Amos saw smoke rising in the distance. He did not know what Sonnis planned to do, but he was determined to follow her.

Sonnis never had to make it all the way, for a minute later she nearly ran into two young man. Amos stayed back and watched. He saw the men startle as they took in his cousin. She was certainly stunning.

"I have come with a gift for your village." Sonnis said, she had raised her voice higher in pitch, so it was girlish and pealing. She pushed the box toward the men.

They seemed uncertain, looking between Sonnis and the box in her arms. But they would never guess who she was. Slowly they seemed to calm, and Amos saw a glint enter their eyes.

"I haven't seen you before," one of them countered casually.

Sonnis blush lightly and looked down. "I've come a long way to give you this gift, my father sent me."

The men shifted again. Amos could sense this new information excited them slightly. Anger started to course through his body. One man seemed more the alpha over the other. He took her box and shoved it into his companions hands. He motioned for the man to leave.

"And are you, my lady, part of this gift?" the man said in a low voice.

Sonnis blinked innocently, a small giggle seemed to escape her lips. Amos's vision was starting to redden. He watched the mans hand twitch, was he about to pull a sword on his cousin. But instead the man took ahold of Sonnis's wrist. She froze when he did this, as he started to pull her with him.

Amos lost it, he forgot his cousin was a goddess. All he saw was red, his hand went to his sword and with a cry he charged the pair. He sliced the human in two before the man could even react. Sonnis stumbled backward, staring at the body of the human, then at Amos holding the sword.

Sonnis straightened slightly eyeing Amos with a mix of fear. But Amos smiled gently at her, he had kept her safe from the real monster. He held a hand out to her.
