Chapter 10

One of the definitions of an apocalypse is as follows. 'A situation in which the world as we know it changes for the worse.' The hallmark of such an event that doesn't totally destroy the population, is how society, its rules, and just morality itself, is the first thing to be lost before food and water deprivation even set in.

The men of the police station were survivors plain and simple. But in their trials of surviving the tide of zombies around the police station, their minds shattered and they lost all morality and decency for their common humanity. So like the rabid animals that they were, even if they still bore the gift of speech, I still killed them all in stoic silence.

My reaction speed heightened by my supernatural energies flooding my body allowed me to easily peek around corners and position myself at speeds they couldn't react and most importantly I was bulletproof with my aura... They were most certainly not.

The only outlier of the group was the leader who was poorly attempting to dual wield MP5s to spray his guns at me while I crouched behind a marble pillar and then when he ran out of ammo he switched to dual-wielding desert eagles but as he raised up his arms and ran towards my position with the guns raised I tilted around the corner and with a loud single burst of cracking noises rang out as the three round burst from my own axe shot through his chest making him fall on his back.

"Fuccckkk." I heard the man groan as he cradled his chest and I sighed as I saw the man was actually fucking wearing two bulletproof vests from the way he curled up allowing me to see the chest atop one another.

For a moment I considered asking why he would do the things he did to the office ladies that were literally in a pillory in the fucking front lobby. But then I realized the cold reality of how even not even a week into the apocalypse I wasn't responsible for, nor did I even have the right to judge how people imploded at how their worlds were falling apart.

So as the man un-shrimped himself from holding onto his probably bruised chest, he then tried to reach for one of his Desert Eagles that landed right next to him. But I just walked over and as his hand closed around the grip of the large pistol I pulled the trigger on my mecha shift weapon with one final cracking noise ringing out and his head was most definitely not wearing a vest.

"Takashi it's clear, start cleaning out the building and Seako come here!" I yelled out with the two teenagers hurrying over from where they were keeping cover behind the buses and trucks.

"You alright? You got holes in your jacket?" Saeko pointed out even pushing one of her thin fingers into my jacket and I could feel the bare flesh of her finger touch my sides making me wryly move her hand out of the bullet hole that if I did not have aura, would have gone through my liver probably.

"Yeah... I am fine." I said dully before taking a breath. "Takashi, you and some guys you trust to have a strong stomach are on corpse looting, the station was filled with Yakuza who took over when the police obviously came out in force to try to contain the outbreak." I explained before I looked at Saeko. "They... Did some fucked up shit to the office ladies working there Saeko, you see if they can be wrapped up in some blankets or any clothes and then moved to a bus." I said after a moment of thought.

The ladies I found were the literal definition of damaged goods but although a tired part of me wanted to just put them out of their misery so they wouldn't be a drain on our resources, but I still wanted to keep that shred of pity and humanity within myself.

Hopefully, they can be rehabilitated but I doubted it.

"I am going to go see how their armory looks if there is one anymore." I finished with an exhale as I walked back into the police station with Takashi rounding up his guys to not only pick up the guns as I mentioned but also to apparently break into all the vending machines for the drinks and packaged snacks as we found out both options didn't have the worms if they were made without much if any soft baking stuff.

So funny enough chocolate with it being boiled and treated so much into different forms of candy was actually a pretty safe bet for unboiled foods that we had to further treat back at base.

It took me a while to find the armory as surprise, surprise there weren't actually huge signs saying 'guns and ammo here.' But eventually, I did, in fact, find it and at the sight, I honestly wasn't too impressed as the highest caliber guns they had were some M16's and some shotguns using slug rounds but this was Japan to be fair.

I couldn't expect to find heavy machine guns or whatever here in a police station.

I heard some foot steps coming around the corner while I was stuffing all the ammunition into some duffel bags and I palmed my axe but released it seeing one of the teenager volunteers I blinked seeing him carry a fucking AK-47 of all things on his shoulder.

"Sir, the evidence room has some more guns and stuff. According to Rei Miyamoto whose parents are officers. This police station is probably where the latest Yakuza's bust's evidence and stuff were taken." He explained and I raised an eyebrow.

"How's the ammo looking?" I asked and he shook his head.

"Not too much ammo honestly. maybe a couple of magazines worth for each gun really, But there was a good number of magazine-style pistols and a lot of ammo for them." He reported and I nodded.

"Alright, thanks for telling me. Put that AK back in the bus and take a pistol for yourself. I don't want you to kill yourself or someone else with a gun with a good kick like that one." I bluntly ordered and the kid blushed and then moved his trench coat to cover himself from zombie bites aside and I saw how the desert eagles from the gang leader were fucking on his waist.

"Oi you brat, you cannot steal the loot from the boss!" I joked and then after a bit of ribbing I let the kid go with one of the Deagles as I honestly didn't need both but if my aura ran low having a side weapon that didn't use it could be useful.

Either way with that little interaction out of the way I kept on putting away the boxes of ammo into duffle bags making sure to keep each ammo type in their own duffel bag for convenience.

"Should I even take all these guns?" I wondered as I realized that if a bunch of people had guns and were using them, then that meant that a lot of people were going to be using the ammo, and it's not like we could train... As I was thinking about training people on how to shoot, to begin with I realized an interesting fact.

I had cleared the surrounding buildings with my Minecraft bullshit and even dug that moat filled with lava, but with there being a good-sized bridge for our vehicles to pass through maybe it would be smart to try to lure all the zombies to the area around the school to stress test our defenses as well as teach people how to shoot?

I nodded as honestly the idea seemed pretty sound in my head and we could easily attract a good-sized hoard as the school had a soccer field with the speaker systems and whatnot.

Clearing out the rest of the police station was a boring affair except for Saeko finding out through one of the ladies that Rei Miyamoto's mom was actually still alive and at another settlement that was holding on.

"And how do we know that the group is still alive?" I asked Saeko as we loaded up everything we looted from the police station.

"Because the police ham radio is still working and although it's huge due to its many functions including allowing it to triangulate sources, I still rang up those people before we disassembled it, to move it to the school." Saeko explained and I nodded with an exhale. Honestly, it was like there was always more to do.

"The ladies?" I asked bluntly and she met my eyes, cooly, as she responded.

"They are in a bus... Maybe a teacher or student will take in a broken bird but I doubt they will be useful to our group as a whole." She said flatly and I shrugged.

I had words to share, and I had thoughts I wanted to say but now wasn't the time so I just grunted. "Either way what's done is done, I am going to remove the walls I put up and deal with the zombies that got attracted to all the noise we made. Get everyone in the vehicles after they finish loading up." I said bouncing off the bus I was leaning on with my hip as I hefted my axe over my shoulder and then went to work getting rid of the stone walls I threw up and then killing the zombies that were attracted to all the gunshots that came from the police station.

But as I was killing the week old zombies only really caring about the more active and fast more recently infected zombies that could actually jog and attack me with faster lunges I froze as I heard a screeching noise and crashing noise.

"God dammit." I cursed as I looked up and hanging on the edge of one of the nearby buildings was a Stinger. A short mutated infected with an extra set of arms that grew from its chest that was from the B4B lines of special zombies and as its chest swelled up I dived to the side as the area I was in, was covered in a thick splatter of mucus that I knew would incapacitate me.

Although the Stinger's were dangerous with large hordes or with other special infected to actually kill people that they incapacitate with their webbing or when they leaped onto people, but on their own, they weren't that dangerous, and with it missing its initial shot, and the thin crowd of zombies that surrounded me not penning me so I could still move.

I was able to shoot the Stinger in the chest several times making it collapse to the roof of the building it was on as its spine probably got tagged with one of my bullets.

"Hunters, Stinger, and all those assholes are the worst," I muttered as I finished killing the last zombies and then I ran over and hopped into the leading bus leaving that stinger on the roof as it's not like our students and teachers were scientists or whatever. They knew there were special monsters out there from the Tall Boy's and the Tank we brought in last time.

Once I got on the bus I clapped the driving teacher on the shoulder and spoke out to both the teacher in front of me through our hand radios. "Alright, let's get going to the bus depot for our refueling. Everyone be careful as we will be going past the mall so it's likely to be a hot spot. If we get pinned in by zombies relax and allow me to clear out the surroundings overtime via the roof of the bus." I explained and I got a number of affirmations so I gave the radio back to the driver.

"I wish you did leave some seats on the bus." Saeko complained as she shifted on the wrestling mat we were using as padding for us to sit on as we leaned against the hard metal wall of the bus.

I just rolled my eyes and then to be annoying, I made her grunt as I just dropped my head into her lap and closed my eyes, which actually make her giggle.
