The Sect Master's Task (Arc 1)

Feng Yongrui's daily life was very pleasant, and he was like a proud father when he looked at his two disciples. They were very clever and were advancing very quickly.

Feng Yongrui was also in a good mood because he had accumulated 94 points, meaning he would have 100 points soon, and he would be able to see the System's reward options. Feng Yongrui felt that life had never been better.

However, his peaceful days were disrupted when the Sect Master called him over to the Main Hall.

Speaking of the Sect Master, Feng Yongrui had to admit that he had lingering fears about him. He was afraid the Sect Master would recognize him or that he (Feng Yongrui) would slip up and call the Sect Master "Mother".

Sigh, life is really hard QAQ...

When Feng Yongrui arrived at the Main Hall, he saw the Sect Master seated on a "throne-like" chair, drinking tea and stroking his beard. Feng Yongrui saluted and greeted the Sect Master before taking a seat.

The two exchanged some perfunctory words, and Feng Yongrui felt his tension slowly increasing as time went on. The Sect Master's face did not betray his feelings, so Feng Yongrui could not guess what he was thinking

Finally, the Sect Master went to the main point.

"Here's the thing. A few days ago we found several robbers harassing the villagers at the foot of our sect. Since those villages are close to the Sect, they have always been under our jurisdiction. Of course, we have to help those villagers. We've located the robber's stronghold, and we need someone to take care of them..."

Feng Yongrui instantly understood. The Sect Master probably wanted him to dispose of the robbers...

"I think you're suitable for this job... The other elders are busy with something, and I myself can't go to take care of this matter personally. I won't feel at ease if I leave this job to a normal disciple. Therefore, I'll have to trouble you to complete this task," The Sect Master said.

Feng Yongrui thought for a few seconds and then agreed. This task didn't seem that hard, and Feng Yongrui still had to complete his Daily Tasks for today.

Feng Yongrui saluted and assured the Sect Master that he would do this task wholeheartedly and bring satisfying results.

As Feng Yongrui headed to his Mountain Peak, he opened his System window and looked at his Daily Tasks for today.

1. Make and wear a flower crown on your head. You must be seen by at least 35 people. (Easy)

2. Bring your disciples to a brothel. (Medium)

3. Find and destroy the most precious herb in the Sect. (Hard)

Feng Yongrui's lips twitched and he secretly lamented in his heart. Dear System, do you have something against me? Otherwise, why do you always give me tasks that make me suffer or look ridiculous??

Also, does the System have a grudge against the Immortal Pathway Sect? Previously his "hard" task was to injure the Sect Master. Now, this "hard" task was to destroy the most precious herb in the Sect. This definitely wasn't a coincidence!!

Feng Yongrui began thinking of several conspiracy plots inside his head, but the System's voice broke him from his thoughts.

"Host, this System has a suggestion..."

"Huh. What do you have to say?" Feng Yongrui scoffed. The System is definitely up to no good again.

The System was unhappy when it heard his tone and huffed.

"...I changed my mind. If you want to hear my suggestion, pay 5 points first."

Feng Yongrui rolled his eyes. See? This System was no good.

"I don't want to hear what you want to say. Your suggestion is probably rubbish anyway," Feng Yongrui shrugged.

A few moments of silence passed before the System finally gave up and spoke.

"Host, perhaps you should bring your disciples to eliminate the robbers today. You can bring them to get more experience about the outside world..." The System's voice was small, and Feng Yongrui's brows furrowed in displeasure.

The thing is, he did think of this and he wanted to take Hou Renshu and Ma Bo outside. He could take this as a little excursion. However, to hear the no-good System suddenly suggest the same thing, Feng Yongrui couldn't help feeling apprehensive.

Was there a hidden plot point somewhere around here? Or were his disciples going to encounter something bad? Feng Yongrui's face was twisted and he couldn't help being worried.

"Hey, why are you suggesting this anyway? You must have some sort of purpose, right?" He murmured.

The System hesitated for a while and Feng Yongrui grew impatient.

"You better tell me now, or else I won't bring my disciples... If you're doing this with bad intentions..." Feng Yongrui's voice grew lower.

"No, no!" The System was flustered and its mechanical voice changed into a childlike voice. "I can't remember why, but I have this really strong feeling that there is something important here, and you should take the disciples to capture those robbers..."

"I really don't mean to harm those kids in any way! Host, you have to believe me!" The child's voice was soft and pleading, tugging at people's heart strings.

Oh, but Feng Yongrui had learned to harden his heart against the System, so he simply remained quiet and weighed the pros and cons.

"Host, I'm serious," The System urged him. "I remember reading something about this in the information about this world... Unfortunately, I forgot the specific details..."

"If anything happens to the kids, I won't let you off," Feng Yongrui threatened.

He was willing to play around with the System, but he had his own bottom line and he would not tolerate it if the System played with human lives. Especially if it was the lives of his disciples.

The System nodded, and, fearing he was still doubting its sincerity, assured him again and again.

Feng Yongrui did not delay his task. He called Hou Renshu and Ma Bo. He told them about the Sect Master's task and asked them if they would like to go with him. To Feng Yongrui, his disciples' opinions mattered. If they didn't want to go, he wouldn't force them.

Hou Renshu and Ma Bo glanced at each other with a look of trepidation. Master wanted to bring them out for a short excursion. Instead of feeling reluctance or fear, they actually felt excited. Master was an interesting person and he definitely had something up his sleeve.

Maybe Master wanted to teach them something valuable, or show them something?

With that thought in mind, the two boys agreed to go with Feng Yongrui. Feng Yongrui was quite happy and silently prayed that nothing would go wrong. He brought the two disciples out of the Immortal Pathway Sect and they walked down the mountain.

Along the way, Feng Yongrui could not help nagging like an old mother, reminding his disciples not to provoke anyone, to flee if they sensed danger, and to take care of each other.

"If you meet someone strong, remember to run away immediately, or hide behind me..." Feng Yongrui said for the nth time.

Hou Renshu and Ma Bo nodded again and again, promising to do so. Hou Renshu's eyes were tinged with helplessness and a slight smile was seen on his lips, while Ma Bo's eyes were filled with joy and warmth.

All in all, it was a wonderful situation.

But Feng Yongrui's steps paused and he was caught in difficulty. He had taken out the map given by the Sect Master to him, but he found that he could not read or understand the map!

For a modern person who was used to digital maps that were clear, accurate, and user-friendly, this ancient map was simply not understandable at all! Feng Yongrui was at a loss. He had stopped walking and stood still in one place, wondering what to do.

His two disciples had stopped too, wondering why their Master was suddenly so quiet.

Feng Yongrui wanted to ask them if they understood the map, but he didn't want to lose face and could only look helplessly at the pictures and scribbles on the map.

The robbers' stronghold was located on a mountain near Luofeng Village. However, the specific location was not marked clearly. Feng Yongrui wondered if he would have to search the stronghold for an entire day.

"Master. Master?" Feng Yongrui was broken from his thoughts by Ma Bo's voice.

"Master, why did you stop?" He asked. Not just Ma Bo, Hou Renshu also looked worried.

Feng Yongrui coughed a few times and shook his head.

"...It's nothing. We'll be going to Luofeng Village first. Oh, before that, we need to change our appearance so that no one recognizes us. Do you remember the face-changing spell I taught you?"

The two boys nodded.

"Good." Feng Yongrui and his two disciples changed their faces and clothes with a spell. Now they looked like three normal travelers.

"Now..." Feng Yongrui looked down and saw just the things he needed. On the ground near him, there was a patch of wild flowers. Immediately, Feng Yongrui had a good idea. He grinned widely.
