Chapter 4 - Alpha's Mate

Previously:

Lanie stood up as she followed the intoxicating scent of vanilla and sandalwood. As she turned around, she saw Eric who started walking towards her and she also approached him slowly.

Once they're almost only a foot apart, they both said...

"Mate."

-------------------

Sylvia's heart tightened. There's a miracle happening right before her very eyes. And she cannot seem to enjoy it nor can she look away.

Eric and Lanie stood there, eyes fixed upon each other. The longing and love in their eyes evident. As the song goes "I've been looking at you forever, but I never saw you before".

Looking enchanted, both started to have a ghostlike wolf figures on top of their heads. Their inner wolves are communicating and have accepted each other as mates. They gave a low growl, intertwined and disappeared into thin air.

Eric reached out his hand to Lanie and kissed her lips as if sealing the deal.

The witnesses rejoiced. Adults and children alike.

"So that is how an Alpha and Luna and their wolves get together. It's magical." Said one of the children.

Mrs. Burgi gently held Sylvia's hand who seemed to have had her feet nailed on the ground. Her eyes are blank. Her thoughts jumbled.

She was hugged by her brother Lucas. He gently carried her like a child. With his arms under her thighs, they went into a nearby garden away from the group. Her mother followed closely.

A set of table made of stones is in the garden. On the surrounding areas are flurry of Snowdrop, Primrose and Spring Crocus which don't seem to go out of season when they should be blooming in spring only; in normal circumstances.

Lucas set him to sit on one of the stone stools. Their mother sat beside her and held her hand.

"Dear..."

"It hurts... my heart hurts... why Ma?"

"We don't know what the Moon Goddess has in store for us." She replied.

"Is that why you tried to stop us from the beginning? Is that why you gave me that talk yesterday?" Her tears now overflowing and her speech is getting slurry and loud.

"I thought as the only Omega, he will be my Alpha." She wept into her hands.

Her mother tried to console her by rubbing her back. Lucas excused himself earlier to let them talk.

As brother, he is hurt for his little sister. But as member of the pack, the Luna destined for the Alpha is inevitable. Nobody will dare question it. The only people who can try to defy it are the two persons involved.

He went back to the festivities and it seems that the people forgot that there's one shattered heart on the side after the magnificent display of an Alpha-Luna mutual acceptance. It's as good as marriage.

He saw the pair sitting closely, holding hands, in one of the tables aways from the people who are now having a double celebration.

"Congratulations to our new Alpha and new Luna. My sincerest wish for your happiness. Please excuse my family as we go back to our humble abode." He interrupted them, getting permission to leave the party early.

Lucas didn't notice but the two have concerned expressions in their faces. He failed to see because he was bowing to them. This was why they sat in that remote area. Turns out, they were trying to figure out what happened and what to do knowing they have hurt Sylvia, the closest person to both of them.

"Where is she?" Lanie softly asked when Lucas turned his back.

He turned to face them again and saw their troubled faces. He thought for a few seconds.

"Fate is cruel. My sister's heart is shattered into pieces. But we cannot deny the power of the Moon Goddess and the fate she bestowed upon us. Our family knows it's for the best. For the pack at least. But I humbly request you both to please give my sister time. I beg of you." Lucas bowed once again and left.

Maine was waiting few meters away and walked with him towards the garden where his sister is being consoled by their mother. Their father standing not far away, looking at the vast garden, in deep thought. Maine carried his little sister and they all went home with heavy hearts.
