Chapter 19: Nighttime Reflections

From the moment Twilight left Starbright's room and returned to her own, she couldn't sleep. She kept thinking about what Starbright had confessed to her. "I've realized that... I like you, Twilight. More than just as a friend." The words echoed in her mind over and over again.

As she lay in bed, her mind wandered through the moments she had shared with Starbright over the years. She recalled their first meeting at the School for Gifted Unicorns, how they had worked together on magical projects, and all the laughter and adventures they had shared.

One memory in particular stood out in her mind: the day Starbright got his cutie mark. It had been a special day, filled with excitement and pride. They had worked together to create an advanced spell, and upon succeeding, a bright light had surrounded Starbright, revealing his cutie mark: a symbol of magic along with a magnifying glass.

Twilight remembered the joy and satisfaction in Starbright's eyes, and how she had felt a deep pride for her friend. There was something more in that moment, a connection that they both had felt but neither had fully acknowledged.

As the night wore on, Twilight realized that Starbright wasn't the only one with those feelings. They had been there for years, hidden beneath the surface of their friendship. They had simply not noticed or had unconsciously avoided them.

When morning finally came, Twilight woke up feeling restless and unsure of how to react to what she had discovered the previous night. She wanted to avoid Starbright until she could sort out her feelings, but she realized that aside from Spike, it was just the two of them in the library.

After a quick breakfast, she spent the day studying, burying herself in books to avoid thinking about Starbright. However, as the afternoon progressed and the sun began to set, she realized she hadn't seen Starbright all day. Worried, she decided to talk to Spike.

"Spike, have you seen Starbright today?" Twilight asked, trying to sound casual.

Spike shook his head. "No, I haven't seen him all day. I thought he was with you."

Twilight's worry increased. She decided to go ask some of her friends, except for Applejack, since the farm was too far to reach quickly.

First, she went to see Pinkie Pie at Sugarcube Corner. "Have you seen Starbright today, Pinkie?"

"No, sorry, Twilight. I haven't seen him all day," Pinkie replied, her smile not quite calming Twilight's concern.

Then she went to see Rarity at the boutique. "Rarity, have you seen Starbright?"

"No, darling. I haven't seen him," Rarity said with a worried expression. "Is everything alright?"

"I'm not sure," Twilight murmured, feeling her anxiety grow.

Next, she went to see Fluttershy. "Fluttershy, have you seen Starbright today?"

"No, Twilight. I'm sorry," Fluttershy replied softly.

Returning to the library, Twilight felt a mix of worry and frustration. As she opened the door, she found Starbright inside, unpacking some boxes.

"Starbright!" Twilight exclaimed, with a mix of relief and anger. "Where have you been? I was so worried about you."

Starbright looked up, surprised by the intensity of her reaction. "I'm sorry, Twilight. I didn't mean to worry you. I left town to pick up my things from the capital. I want to move here permanently."

Twilight took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "You should have told me where you were going."

Starbright nodded. "You're right. I should have. To make up for it, I brought you something."

He pulled out a gift box from one of the boxes he was unpacking and handed it to Twilight. When she opened it, she found a beautiful bracelet, delicately designed with magical symbols.

"It's for you, Twilight. I wanted to give you something special to thank you for everything you've done for me and for being an amazing friend," Starbright said with a smile.

Twilight felt a rush of emotions. "Thank you, Starbright. It's beautiful." She stepped closer and hugged him, feeling her feelings slowly become clearer. "And I'm sorry for worrying so much. I'm glad you decided to stay."

Starbright hugged her back, feeling that their friendship had overcome another hurdle. "I'm glad too, Twilight. Let's move forward together, like we always have."
