My New Life As A Zoldyck In HxH

*Reborn in HxH as Maha's sister with basically immortality.** In my first life, I was a CEO. I had experience with negotiations, remaining calm in frightening situations, and being completely emotionally detached. Yes, I know. Typical cliche backstory. But for me, that was my life. I had the average childhood - books, movies, anime, school, and studying. I spent middle school waisting my life away, reading manga, watching anime, reading romance, watching sitcoms... and then I realized how my life wouldn't get anywhere like this. I had always despised couch potatoes, and I was slowly turning into one. So I finished reading and watching my current favorite manga and anime, Hunter X Hunter, and started studying. It turned out, I was a prodigy. I had astonishingly accurate memory - I could remember things just by looking and hearing them once. I expanded my knowledge by a LOT, and after graduating, I started my company. Alas, after my company reached #1 in the world, my family died in a car crash, and my closest friends betrayed me... (yes, I know. My life story is so common that if this were a book, no one would feel an ounce of pity.) I grew detached from the world. There was no entertainment, just work, boredom, sleep, work, sleep, boredom, work.... An endless cycle. Hearing an assassin would come, I wrote a will giving away everything to my business partner. After writing the will, I willingly drank the most lethal poison (since the assassin apparently knew I had become immune to most poisons after taking a class from the weapons master) and died peacefully, hoping my next life would be a little more exciting... and that I would have more people to rely on. I opened my eyes, unsure if I would be met with Heaven or Hell's gates, and found myself... facing a white wall, with noise and energy surrounding me. I looked around cautiously before realizing I could barely move my head. The last thing I heard was the word "Zoldyck..." before I passed out.

The VIP Floor

With a ping, the elevator doors slid open, and I stepped out, scanning the area.

The floor was red carpet, and there weren't many rooms. The doors were colored gold and had smooth handles.

Each door had plenty of space between the other doors, implying the rooms were extremely large.

The locks were a keypad password - it seemed they wanted to make it secure but not too bothersome to the special clients / important people.

As I closed my eyes, I increased my en to flow through the entire floor and feel how many people were in each room.

A slight smirk formed on my lips as I activated one of my nen abilities, inspired by the hatsu book.

In the past, there was a Zoldyck who was able to control shadows, bringing some to "life" to follow his command.

He could use them to spy, suffocate, kill, etc., and was able to complete most of his missions from far away.

Based on my hatsu changing air, I was able to create a similar ability with a simple contract.

The conditions were I had to be perfectly calm, since my air-changing hatsu was based on my mood, and I had to have my eyes closed.

At first, it was a setback, but after practicing, it became simple for me, since I trained to heighten my senses.

As I pulled in shadows from the halls, from under lamps, doors, and any darkness I could find, I pulled them all toward me and combined them to make a large shadow.

I split them up evenly, then sent them to look under the doors, to decrease the amount of rooms I had to search.

I activated zetsu and leaned on the wall, folding my arms as I looked through my shadows' view.

Part of this nen ability was that I was able to use my shadows to see.

With training, I was able to make something like nen eyes on the shadows instead of looking through my actual eyes.

It wasn't great for combat, since they would have limited view of the fight, but it was helpful and useful in other ways, such as searching a large area or spying on something/someone.

Watching what the shadows saw, I didn't see anywhere a chemist might reside, and almost the entire floor was already searched.

All the rooms mainly had rich guys, or groups of people discussing business.

No one who looked uncomfortable in such a high-end living space, or working with chemicals or pills.

Finally, at the last door, I straightened up and teleported inside the room.

(Since I saw what it looked like through a shadow, and I felt what it was like to be there, I was able to teleport.)

When my shadow had looked under the door, they saw a man in a "lab coat" working at a desk with pills surrounding him, clearly a chemist.

Deactivating my nen ability, I silently observed, watching what the chemist was doing to create the pills.

The chemist was focused, not noticing me as he worked to shape the pill.

I jumped up, just in case, and watched as he worked, with a small batch of pills in the corner of the desk.

After activating gyo, I saw that they all had a small aura around them.

The man was looking around nervously, even though he was alone in his room and the door was locked, and then he started to pour aura into the pill.

Hmm. Since the man was using IN on the aura around his pills, he definitely knew nen.

But instead of activating en, at least for his room, he was looking around, meaning he didn't know all of nen.

Plus, he seemed really nervous about someone finding out about his nen, meaning either someone told him not to ever let anyone know what nen was, or he just didn't want anyone to realize how he made his pills.

I deactivated zetsu and jumped down, landing lightly as I came closer for a better look.

The chemist still didn't notice me as he carefully measured out how much nen he was putting into the pill, and changing the pill for it to have the Sleeper Drug effects.

I activated my shadow ability again, closing my eyes. My shadows came from the entire hall and this room, so there was a lot.

I spread them out along the walls and doors, making the room soundproof.

I left four shadows, making nen eyes on them.

Each one was stuck to a wall, and served as my eyes.

"So...do you make all your drugs one by one, or do you have a way of mass-producing them? Because it looks like you're making them one by one, but that would take forever, wouldn't it?" I asked quietly.

The man let out a yelp as he jerked, startled, and nearly fell off his chair as he whipped around to face me.

He stared at me, frozen in shock or whatever emotion was going through his mind.

I kept my eyes closed, repositioning the shadow on the wall behind me so that I had a clearer view of the chemist.

Finally, he opened his mouth.

"Who...are you?"

A/N:

Sorry this is so short. I'm really trying to find a way to write down my ideas, but it's taking a while.

I figured it was best to get something out to you guys than nothing, so I'm releasing this now.

Also, since I'm feeling less pressured to make longer chapters and faster releases, I'll be taking my time so that the quality can be a little better, and so that I'll be able to apply my ideas without rushing.

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Don't expect amazing quality, though. Nobody's perfect.

Anyway, since I have a lot on my plate right now, expect shorter chapters and less releases.

Hopefully my hw load will lighten, and I'll have more free time to write.

I know it sounds unrealistic, but I've only had an hour of free time a day (not counting staying up late or doing hw), and I needed to relax so I didn't have time to work on this.

Sorry about this, but at least I'm not dropping it, right?

That's a positive!

I was seriously considering it, but decided something was better than nothing, and I could release small chapters when I had time.

Hopefully there will be people who accept that, and are willing to wait.

Thank you so, so much everyone!

Again, I'm sorry about this. And the long author's note....
