Chapter 54: Only Making Really Good Sacrifices

AJ’s POV

I wished I could have spent more time studying this thing. I’d have taken notes for weeks before even thinking about touching it. It was terrifying enough to look at, at least. Actually reaching out for it just seemed like the worst idea in the world.

Then I felt a mighty commotion happening upstairs.

“Oh jeez,” I said. Time was limited, so whatever I was going to do, now was absolutely the time.

I reached for it briefly, then decided that that was extremely stupid to do. Instead, I cast about Demetri’s domain. I still wasn’t sure how it worked. If some of the stuff in here got broken, did that mean part of Maxx was breaking? Because Demetri had some stuff in here.

I’d rather the stuff get sacrificed than me.

I reached for the nearest thing to me. Which happened to be a back scratcher, of all things.
