The Court Case

When people are young, nearly all were somewhat naive. They are inherently taught that good will always triumph over evil; that the law would always be there to protect them. As for those who committed evil, they would be punished by the law. This was the mantra of justice all were taught at a very young age, but reality sometimes proved different.

A courthouse was a forum where evil was meant to be dealt with. But, in reality, this is seldom the case. The county courthouse looked like a typical courthouse from the outside. It was a Romanesque building, three stories high, with large pillars in the front.

Ivy grew up on one side of the building. The green grass in the courtyard was immaculately kept at a proper height. The flag of the United States of America flew high on a pole in front of the building. Etched in stone on the front wall of the courthouse were the words "Truth, Justice, and Liberty." This was a place where one should feel truly safe as the sense of righteousness permeated through the entire building.

Leo had decided to uphold today in court as it was his job, and losing would affect his career negatively, which the current Leo didn't want to see happen.

---

The court session had only started yet the atmosphere was tense. Seated on the spectator seats were observers and families of the parties involved.

Leo was seated on the left side of the courtroom on the first row, with his client seated next to him.

James was dressed in a blue suit which looked quite old, while Leo was dressed in a gray suit with his hair neatly combed behind. He looked dashing even while seated on the front row.

If anyone familiar with Leo were to look carefully at him, they would notice that his arms, and chest had grown bigger. He hats a slightly bigger frame now and a more intimidating aura.

On the right side of the courtroom was Lance's corner with Lance Inc.'s lawyer, Herbert Lawrence; an aged lawyer with a beer belly, but his shrewd eyes implied that he was very experienced despite his appearance. A company like Lance Inc would have a senior associate backing them, which raised the difficulty up for Leo, but he wasn't bothered.

Ahead of them was a raised platform, stylishly designed with a massive desk. The large brown desk was fenced with a few guards stationed around it. There the judge sat and looked at them with indifference in her eyes.

The judge was a lady in her mid-forties or so. Her beauty was fading but with a little makeup, one could make her look in her twenties.

Under the black robes, Leo knew this judge had a curvy figure and a bright and odd charm. He didn't know why, but he could just feel it.

"Your honor, Mr. Brent was discharged from his duties just three days after he was accused of theft. This was not enough time for Mr. Brent to clear his name, nor was it enough for Lance Inc. to carry out a proper investigation." Leo argued once the case was kicked into session.

"Objection, your honor! How can my client make strong claims without evidence?" Herbert growled as he rose to his feet in fury.

Bang!

"Objection overruled! That isn't an arguable defense, Mr Herbert." The judge said with a hint of disdain in her eyes as she gazed at Herbert.

"Please continue, Mr. Wright." She added while shifting her gaze to Leo but if one paid attention closely they would realize her fierce gaze softened when it fell on Leo.

His charm was working magic even when he wasn't trying.

Leo responded with a ravishing smile and a slight bow as he stepped out of his corner with a confident look on his face.

"I wish to invite Mr. Lance for a few questions," Leo said with a firm look on his face and the judge nodded in agreement.

Leo stood in silence and watched as Mr Lance moved over to a lone podium meant or questioning. He watched as Mr Lance took the oath before stepping up to ask his questions.

In anticipation, everyone moved to the edge of their seat. They all wished to hear what this dazzling young lawyer of the White Associates Law firm had to say.

For some strange reason, maybe obvious, Leo was the center of attraction in this case. If one were to come here now and observe everyone in the room, one would agree Leo was the main reason everyone came here.

"Did you discharge Mr Brent just three days after accused theft?" Leo asked with a firm look, but everyone was stunned.

Not because they were shocked by the complexity of the question but how dumb it is. Leo was given a chance to question the CEO of the Lance Inc factory, and he is throwing this all away with stupid questions.

"You..." Mr. Lance frowned.

"Please answer my question with a simple yes or no, Mr. Lance." Leo said in a cold voice stunning Mr Lance.

It felt like no one else was in the room and all his focus was pinned on Leo. He could feel animosity directed towards him. The way Leo looked at him, it was like a predator staring down its prey.

"Yes..." Mr Lance responded after a short pause.

"How many days has it been since then?" Leo asked.

"I think, fourteen..." Mr Lance replied with a bit of hesitation and a puzzled look on his face.

"Mr Lance, you are aware that it is a crime to lie in court. Kindly state your reply boldly all to hear. How many days has it been since Mr Brent was discharged from duty?" Leo spoke with a harsh tone.

"Fourteen." Mr Lance responded while gritting his teeth.

"Why was Mr Brent relieved from duty?" Leo asked.

"Because he stole from the factory!" Mr. Lance responded with a frown.

At this point, Herbert was smiling sheepishly. He thought this young, dazzling junior associate of the White Associates Law firm would be something interesting, but he was wrong. This kid was just all looks and no brains. He began cursing himself for even bothering to prepare seriously before coming.

Herbert had thought that he would be going against someone noteworthy, but they dared to send a foolish child who doesn't know how high the heavens are to face him on a battlefield he was familiar with. What more, this kid seemed to have not done any investigation on the case.

He definitely won't let Leo walk out of this in one piece.

The judge, who had a favorable impression of Leo, was soon getting impatient. Even if she wanted to let him have his way, there was a limit to what she could ignore, especially with so many people watching.

"Mr Wright, I believe we all have better things to do, so I suggest you avoid asking obvious questions again. One more mistake and this questioning session is over!" The judge said fiercely, making the smile on Herbert's face widened.

Right now even Mr Lance was smiling sheepishly. He waited patiently for Leo to reveal a flustered look but contrary to his expectations, Leo wore the same cocky smile on his face.

"Understood, your Honor." Leo responded.
